I wanted to wait until last night's game against Maryland to full evaluate how the Mountaineers stack up this season. We know their offense is ridiculous, but what about the D?
Maryland might be dreadful on offense, but either way, they'll still be able to run the football against most opponents. West Virginia stuffed the Terrapins. Just 89 yards rushing. I'm buying now.
However, defense might no longer matter after watching last night's game. I knew Noel Devine was special, but I didn't think his high school success and moves would translate IMMEDIATELY to the next level. The addition of Noel might be the best addition to the Mountaineers defense. Until I find video from last night, just pretend the opponents above are the Maryland defense. Same result. Wow. Noel only averaged 27 yards per carry last night.
What's the over/under right now for Louisville-West Virginia? 110?
The fans might get sore necks from watching both teams march up and down the field--if it were to get to an OT, the record for points in a game might be in jeopardy!!
I only saw one of his runs live, but wow. He can cut and change directions as good as anybody. By the end of the year all the fans in West Virginia might actually be looking forward to next year when they can see Devine full time.
I was looking for something like this after the WVU game days ago because it wouldn't let me post in the game thread. Not sure how I missed this. When those announcers were comparing him to Sanders, that was the first time I have ever thought that the comparison wasn't that bad. Not going to compare him to Sanders though, but he does have all the tools to be an instant star when he starts getting the load.
