In case you were wondering, Bobby Petrino is well and alive.Blog Photo - Western Kentucky Football: Bobby Petrino wants to win championships

He's been quietly finding his niche with Western Kentucky and has laid low for the majority of the offseason, minding his own business and staying out of harm's way with the media.

Until now, that is.

During an interview with local reporters, Petrino was asked about his expectations for the Hilltoppers in his first season. His response was, well, enough to write about.

"We need to focus on what our vision is," he said. "Our vision is to make a bowl game every single year and win the bowl game.  It was exciting last year; they made their first bowl game, but sometimes you get excited about that, I've been there, but you forget to prepare and win the game.

"We have to win our bowl games. We have to win our conference championship. I think that's important to us this year and as soon as we make the move into Conference USA."

Petrino wasn't completely accurate with his comments—Western Kentucky appeared in the Refrigerator Bowl in 1952 and Tangerine Bowl (now the Capital One Bowl) in 1963, which were both wins.

However, Willie Taggart built a solid foundation and winning atmosphere for Petrino to work with. The Hilltoppers have a very good chance to win the Sun Belt this upcoming season, with tough conference opponents LA-Lafayette and Arkansas State being played on home turf.

Petrino set the bar pretty high for a low-profile mid-major program, but his track record shows that he can do it—he's a big reason why Western Kentucky was able to finish with the No. 3 recruiting class in the conference for 2013.

I'm not sure how long Petrino plans to stay in Bowling Green, but he certainly can lead this team to a championship in the near future—whether it be this year or with the C-USA.
