About Me:
I am an Oregon Ducks fan. I graduated from the University of Oregon, and met my wife there. The Ducks are the perpetual underdog. They have more desire, more effort, and more heart than the "big name" teams, so that they have a chance to win. If you were asked where to find Oregon (ORYGUN) on a map, could you find it? Most sports prognosticators don't know, because they think we still ride horses out here, and therefore overlook the Oregon Ducks. That's OK, because the Ducks will keep crashing the championship parties until someone... anyone notices. I'm also a supporter of other teams/universities based here in Oregon, like the Portland Trail Blazers, the Portland State Vikings, the Oregon State Beavers (when they're not playing the Ducks), the Portland Lumberjax, and the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Although I'm all about the Ducks, the Pac-10 Conference, and most college sports, I have been compelled in recent hours to give my current thoughts (and shooting from the hip in doing so), so that this post will have wider appeal to the 'Q' masses. Without going into great detail on each one, here are my "quick thoughts" in sports right now (feel free to point out any one you disagree with):
-I think those baseball players recently named in the steroid report probably have some explaining to do, rather than just looking innocent.
-I think the price of attending sporting events is getting out of control, but we keep paying for it.
-I think colleges who "lack institutional control" over their players should be held more severely liable than the punishment they typically receive (Oklahoma, USC, and South Florida... are you listening?)
-I think Michael Vick should finish out the full term of his sentence, although that may not happen.
-I think this year's BCS Title Game did not possess the two best teams in college football.
-I think sports is sports and sports entertainment is not (American Gladiators? Come on.).
-I think professional players sometimes lack the heart and desire they once had in high school and college.
-I think if I get up at 3:30 a.m. to go on ESPN's College Gameday with a FanIQ sign, I shouldn't be asked by ESPN to take it down.
-I think there should be an eight-team playoff in college football.
-I think there should only be the NCAA Tournaments for Men's and Women's basketball, not the postseason NIT.
-I think all college players should graduate from college (or turn 21 if not attending school) before turning pro.
-I think the NFL & NBA seasons last too long (between regular season and playoffs).
-I think a MLB game takes too long to play.
-I think the same could be said for college football.
-I think there are too many TV timeouts, so advertisers can "pay the bills" make scads of money.
-I think there is East Coast media bias, although most figures in the media try to dispel it as "myth".
-I think golf on television is unwatchable.
And finally,
-I think you should tell me what you like, dislike, or flat-out bothers you in a sports "quick thought" or twenty.
