What Kind of Big Ten Welcome Will Nebraska Get? [NCAAF Week 5 Live Thread]

10/1/11 in NCAAF   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Welcome to another full Saturday of college football. I won't lie. Most of the afternoon matchups sound don't that exciting. However, once night falls, things get interesting very quickly. The big game of the week is Nebraska's first ever conference game in the Big Ten. Unfortunately for the Cornhuskers, the Big Ten hasn't made it easy for them, sending them to Wisconsin. The Badgers offense under new quarterback Russell Wilson has looked unstoppable so far this year, but against weak competition. The winner of this game becomes the Big Ten favorite, and don't be surprised if these teams have a rematch in the Big Ten title game.

Also tonight we have Alabama-Florida, as Will Muschamp and the Gators get their shot to unseat the potentially juggernaut Crimson Tide. Clemson and Virginia Tech, meanwhile, will battle for the top dog spot in the ACC. Here's today full schedule of important games today.

As someone smart on Twitter said, "Only Stephen Garcia could hold Alshon Jeffery and Marcus Lattimore to 13 points."

Ohio State scored 7 points today at home. It makes me feel better about Penn State's abject crappiness. First to 9 wins the PSU-OSU game this year.

So far, number 15 Baylor and now number 10 South Carolina have fallen today. Add number 20 TCU, just lost to SMU in OT 40-33.

After the Auburn TD, one of the announcers said that "(South Carolina)'s got to count on Stephen Garcia."

In other words, the 'Cocks are boned.

Stephen Garcia sucks. Robert Griffin III does not. Any questions?

For a 5th year senior, Garcia makes the same mistakes a true freshman would.

I know it's not on the list of "important games" but I just enjoyed a fun game between my Cougs and Colorado. Wazzu came from behind with less than 2 minutes left to take the lead, and then recovered a Colorado fumble on their last drive to win the game. I heart FSN.

Ohio State fall to Michigan State, 10-7. Robert Griffin III outstanding day isn't enough, number 15 Baylor falls to Kansas State 36-35.

Garcia to Alshon Jeffrey, South Carolina gets a touchdown but misses the extra point

Auburn gets an early field goal and then forces a turnover on the next possession.  War Eagle turns it back over 2 plays later.  Gamecocks have the ball at their own 35 trailing 3-0

Rutger comes away with a INT, 11 seconds left. Te misses a 44 yard field goal, that's now a 44, 47, and 51 on the day. Going to OT

Navy with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty? Sportswriter that love pablum columns about the service academies are confused right now.

10/1/11   |   Joe_L   |   12372 respect

Rutgers ties it up 13 all on a 3 yard TD pass to Sanu, 2:04 left to play.

Air Force scores from a yard out and makes the extra point.  Falcons win on the road at Navy, 35-34

WVU causes a fumble on the first kick off. Then go back to their normal ways allowing the ball to be returned to their 20. As I typed this Bowling Green one play, one touchdown. 7-3 Bowling Green lead.

Arkansas comes away with the ball on a turn over on downs, 1:03 left to play.

10/1/11   |   Scott   |   53012 respect

Navy scores a touchdown but gets a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty for celebrating.  The extra point is moved back and blocked by Air Force

10/1/11   |   Joe_L   |   12372 respect

Texas A&M and Arkansas are in a battle. Arkansas retakes the lead on a Roger Green two yard TD,  42-38 with 1:41 left.

10/1/11   |   Scott   |   53012 respect

Navy and the Air Force in overtime tied at 28

Rutgers and Syracuse are doing everything in their powers to let the other team win.

Penn State survives Indiana 16-10. They have got to be the worst 4-1 team in the nation. I wouldn't favor them in any of the rest of their games except Purdue.

Illini move to 5-0 after a huge comeback against Northwestern.  Excuse me while I go and change my pants

10/1/11   |   Scott   |   53012 respect

Illini sneak it in with 13 seconds left, 38-35 Illini with the kickoff upcoming

10/1/11   |   Scott   |   53012 respect

Navy kicks a field goal to get within 8 points of Air Force and then executes the onside kick to perfection.  Midshipmen have the ball with 2 minutes left

10/1/11   |   Scott   |   53012 respect

Illini take over on their 30 yard line and get a long pass play, a long run play and a pass interference call.  Ball at the Wildcat 4 yard line with 26 seconds left

Wildcats score with just over a minute left.  As an Illini fan, I've seen this game played out at least 2 times a year since Zook arrived in Champaign

Illinois just erased a 28-10 deficit at home to Northwestern.  31-28, just over 3 minutes remaining and the Illini with the ball after stopping the Wildcats on 4th and 8

Penn State's offense might have finally hit its nadir. Currently tied at 3 with Indiana late in the half.
