In what was a fairly decent weekend, we learned the following....There is a distinct difference between Colt and the Colts. One's the "real McCoy" while the others are consistently inconsistent.
The Pac-10 remains a one trick pony and 9 clowns. The lone OSU challenger in the Big 10 this year is tPSU. I'm sure the Big 10 will arrange a tie for this weekends' game so that both can remain in the BCS picture despite not being challenged... in typical Big 10 hype fashion. The Badgers were overrated for the 74th consecutive season. The SEC is 4 parts "impending loss" and 8 parts "moral victories". The ACC is 12 parts "mid major" and 0 parts "BCS quality". The Big East's 15 minutes was up 2 seasons ago. And finally, it's better to be a Horned Frog than Cinderella.
Sunday was no different than the previous 7 in the National Box of Chocolates League. Watching Cheryl Yost is still 100 times more entertaining than remembering to watch the Titans. If that's the best the league can offer, this pilot should be cancelled quicker than the All New Family Affair. Besides, Mr. French can lob a much deeper ball than Kerry Collins. Message received, Cowpokes... substance IS greater than style. We got it! It's always nice to see that all your great talent has a base made out of sand. At least I WILL enjoy the final 9 weeks of implosion out of the Emerald City! Some things never change... the Bengals are the Bengals, the Lions are the Lions, and the Saints are the Aints!! Some things change weekly... the Panthers are a consistent coin-flip proposition, only the Vikes could win a game thanks to the complete ineptitude of the oposing QB one week, and go out and score 41 and lose to the second-most inept QB in the league the next. And kudos to management for televising that abortion of a game last night during prime time. I'm sure we all sat through that stellar performance between the Bucs and Hawks with baited breath.
Finally, is there anything more nostalgic than Game 7 of the ALCS being played in....Tampa?? I felt like I was watching the Bad News Bears playing in the old Astrodome. The Red Sox players were looking around like they were in some sort of Twilight Zone episode... I fully expected Montgomery Brewster to come out and pitch 3 innings... and was waiting for Charlie Sheen to come out and strike out the final batter. And I thought it was a nice touch for all the Mississippi State fans to make it out to the game... with all of their annoying cowbells and such. It's nice to see that south Florida has as many rednecks as other parts of the South. And I personally can't wait for the World Series to start... that showdown between these 2 traditional powerhouse clubs is going to be epic!
Here's to hoping that next weekend provides us with as much entertainment as this past weekend did!
