What's All The NFL Preseason Fuss About?
Last weekend, the Bears played the Superbowl champion New York Giants. You couldn't believe the headlines I saw flying. "The Real Test", "Time to Show What We Are Made Of", among many other ridiculous claims. This is PRESEASON people. From my simple understanding of preseason games, its an opportunity for coaches and players to run some plays, try out some lineups, see which players are going to make the team...this is not the time to "Show What we Are Made Of". This is just ridiculous.
Now, the Bears have acquired some talent this offseason. Brandon Marshall, Michael Bush, they have drafted some players that could be exciting to watch. There is certainly a lot to be getting excited about. But to freak out because Cutler didn't look great, or Forte didn't have great numbers in a preseason game? Come on, man!
The season officially starts for the Chicago Bears September 9-and if things don't go as they should, then we can all start freaking out, because that game actually matters in the Win-Loss column. Until then, if they continue to keep Urlacher on the sidelines, and have a weird combination of players on the offensive line and only a few connection from Cutler to Marshall, then so be it-don't get your panties in a bunch. I will be looking forward to the season opener, when we see a offense and defense for an entire game. When we see Cutler to Marshall go long. When we see an offensive line that can give Cutler time to throw. When we watch how Mike Tice has changed this offense to actually make it work. When we watch Urlacher, Peppers & Briggs knock the luck out of the Indy quarterback.
That is when we can make a fuss. And get excited. And throw around crazy headlines. Until then, its preseason people, calm the heck down!
