Kids these days have it so easy. With their Xbox Station 360s and PSPs, they don't know what it was like to play a real baseball video game like RBI Baseball. But you can still relive your golden days this weekend at the Ohio National RBI Tournament. That's right. You too can enjoy the ping of the bat and watch the Rich Garces-like players glide around the bases. With four pitchers in your bullpen and a Zen-like attitude to racial diversity (all the players look exactly the same and they're peach-colored!), RBI Baseball certainly represents a special time in video gaming.
All kidding aside, this game did pretty much set the standard for sports video games (and helped us forget about that god-awful 10 Yard Fight). And it was the first game to show you the necessary statistics after your realistic 25-23 game.
And if you go to the tourney, you can impress with random RBI Baseball facts: Only two players in the original game are still active (Roger Clemens and Julio Franco) while three are dead (Kirby Puckett, Jose Uribe and Donnie Moore).
Ahh ... memory lane. Isn't it grand?
