Where Did the NFC East Go? Eli Manning and Tony Romo Put Up 80 Points in Sunday Night Football
9/10/07
80 points in an NFC East game? What is this? They've been watching too many Big East games of late. Fortunately, the Eagles and Redskins kept to the tradition of FG laden games.Eli Manning impressed last night with 28/41, 312 yards and 4 TD/ 1 INT. Problem is his defense gave up even more to Tony Romo who was equally impressive. 15/24, 345 yards with 4 TD/ 1 INT. I wasn't surprised by Romo's performance, he'll pass for plenty yards this season, but I thought the Cowboys would also show signs of a defense. Had Eli Manning taken advantage of Plaxico Burress' mismatch even more, this could have been an even higher scoring shootout.
New York has many other concerns this morning besides a Swiss cheese defense. Eli Manning left with a bum shoulder, Brandon Jacobs could be out for several weeks and Osi Umenyiora also left the game early. I already found Brandon Jacobs replacement, but Eli won't be easily replaced. He should be set to go Sunday, but we'll have to wait until midweek to know for sure. As much as I'd enjoy watching Jared Lorenzen eat up a defense, literally, a backup backfield won't win any games.
