My List of NBA Avengers: Which Players are Most Like the Characters?
Iron Man/Chris Paul: There's a scene in the Avengers trailer where Tony Stark (Iron Man) refers to himself as a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist. Any NBA fan could describe Chris Paul the same way: a genius on the court, a millionaire (close enough) off it, and while I am not sure of his playboy status, the way he turned the clippers into a playoff contender is nothing short of philanthropy in my book.
Captain America/Tim Duncan: Duncan has lived through at least three different NBA generations since entering the league in 97' (Jordan era, Kobe/Shaq era, Lebron and friend’s era). It's the NBA equivalent to being frozen during world war ll and waking up in the 21st century. Duncan has been the basketball version of Caption America over his storied career. He refused to take a max extension in 07' so the Spurs could have more cap space to sign a free agent. He has been loyal to a fault, has always made the right choices, and has been a shining example of what an NBA champion should be.
Thor/Derrick Rose: Thor is the son of Odin the Norse god and ruler of Asgard, the city of the Gods. The parallels with Derrick Rose, the son of (figuratively speaking) Jordan the NBA god and unquestioned ruler of Chicago, are interesting. Rose has played with the shadow of Jordan hanging over his head for years, the same way Thor has had to battle the expectations of his father. Thor carries a hammer that only he has the power to use, while Rose carries a deadly Bulls team that only he has the power to unleash.
Hulk/Andrew Bynum: A mild mannered citizen by day but a raging purple and gold monster by night. Bynum has added a mean streak to his game after leveling JJ Barea during last year’s playoffs. This entire season has been a Bruce Banner/Hulk transformation for Bynum, as it feels like he is ready to take over the best center in the league moniker from Howard.
There you have it, my NBA version of the Avengers. Feel free to add your own list in the comments section.
