Who Else is Tired of Ray Lewis?
Ever since Lewis announced that this season would be his final one there has been constant pressure amongst the top sports media outlets to cover his story from every angle. It even made Lewis crave more attention than he already had in previous years as evidenced by his lame, stupid and downright disrespectful dance at the conclusion of the game against the Denver Broncos.
It's a shame for the rest of the Ravens because this has become known as Ray Lewis vs. San Francisco because if they win, he will receive all the attention, stealing the limelight from potential first-time winners in Joe Flacco and Ray Rice.
How about making this about Torrey Smith who tragically lost his brother this season and what he has done to help the Ravens on the field this season and postseason? Or Michael Oher, getting his first crack at a Super Bowl ring? Lewis has overshadowed his brilliant team and talented defense (even without him on the field) because he is making his final stop of his career.
He has never been the religious figure he is now and for good reason. He has been mired in controversy throughout his career - from murder to performance enhancing drugs (twice). Why now do we choose to honor his presence? Why now do everyone on the Ravens team get pushed aside for a guy who doesn't deserve the spotlight?
Ed Reed is in his first trip to the Super Bowl and he is widely considered one of the top safetys in football - why can't Ray step aside for his man?
Maybe it isnt his fault - maybe it just the media hyping it up and he is just responding. Either way, its getting old - and because I don't want to hear any more of this, I'm rooting for San Francisco.
