That is what I say this morning looking at the box scores.
Did I read this right? Kings beat the Red Wings 5-3, in Detroit last night.
Wait they were down 3-1 going into the 3rd.
Is this the same team that a couple weeks could not even muster a goal against these Red Wings?
Next to beating the Mighty Mucks beating Hockeytown does fill my heart with glee. Sure we are still the worst team in hockey, but it looks like this team might be figuring things out. So far on this East Coast swing (thanks to the stupid Grammy's) the Kings have lost only two games. Only in one of them did the Kings look like jesters (6-3 loss to New Jersey). The have stopped playing like the minor league team just before the break and are 8-3-1 in their last 12. Look, I am realistic in knowing that the Kings getting the 8th spot is long shot. Which would be tantamount to climbing Mt Everest in flip-flops.
What will be interesting to see if they continue this play is that they may not be as willing to be sellers come the trade deadline. They may not have to rip things apart. Not saying they do not need more pieces, but if they do move players they will be in a better position to bargain. Which I hope will lead Lombardi to fleece some teams instead of getting the wrong end of the broom handle in and uncomfortable place.
Do I dare say there is hope?
We will see
