Why Tyler Hansbrough and Tim Tebow Will Succeed

Tyler Hansbrough and Tim Tebow: The Heart of a Champion

Tyler Hansbrough and Tim Tebow are two of the greatest college players to grace their respective sports. There is no denying that they will be remembered for ages for what they have contributed to the game, but what is it that makes them so special?

College athletes nowadays too often look at the college game as a stepping stone or just another part of the long process to get into the pros. Tebow and Hansbrough have shown dedication, not only to their sport, but also to the community and their education. It is rare that you see a college athlete stay for all four years of his college eligibility, but these two modern day warriors have shown that they want to achieve one thing… greatness.

There are many ways to accomplish greatness, but each person has his own measuring stick. What is greatness? French Politician, Charles de Montesquieu, once said that “To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them all.” Tebow and Hansbrough embody that quote, and they do everything in their power to take their team to the next level.

Everyone remembers the Tim Tebow press conference after his Gators lost to Ole Miss. That moment motivated Florida for the rest of the season and pushed them towards a National Championship. That moment in time was special. It is one of those rare glimpses that you get to see what it takes to achieve “greatness.”

This brings me to my next quote from the German poet, Hebbel. “Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.” That sums up the success of Hansbrough and Tebow. Countless times you can glance over at the sideline and see Tebow waving his arms and pumping up his teammates and the crowd. You can see on the court Tyler Hansbrough flexing and screaming, just showing the emotion that you know he is hungry for success. That is what makes these two truly great.

It has yet to be seen what they will accomplish in their professional careers. Many people will tell you they don’t have the skillset to succeed. You will hear they aren’t the greatest athletes and that they may be clumsy. But I will tell you this; I have no doubts in my mind that Tyler Hansbrough and Tim Tebow can and will be successful in their pro careers. They have what it takes, and it can all be summed into one word… heart.

To leave you with one lasting quote, while it isn’t from a politician or poet, it is from rapper Nelly, but it get’s my point across:

“Ain't no way they can stop me now, cause I'm on my way. I can feel my ring coming.
It's the blood of a champion, pumping deep inside my veins, too much pride to be running.
I'ma get what I can and more, even if my blood, my sweat, and my tears don't mean nothing.
It's the heart of a champion in me.”

Cept those two men were unsuccessful in the NFL. Vince got benched by a 50 year old (exaggeration) Vick started to decline and will never reach elite nor will Vince. That being said I dont think he'd make a great or even good or even decent QB... in fact I think he would be a good TE but his cockiness and attitude will prevent him from doing that and he will disappear with the likes of Danny Wuerful and Rix. Hanbourough I fear will get dominated by true big men such as Dwight, Odom, etc. But we'll see... itll be interesting... remember how dominant Redick was?

I am sorry - and I especially apologize to Mark the Shark, but how can you put these two in the same category.  Hansbrough has given more blood, sweat, tears, time, dedictin, commitment and love to the UNC program than Tebow ever thought about giving UF  Tebow is an excellent college QBwho is also the personification of the post game interview, where is Tyler is the epitmay of the straight gunning from the hip as he walks off the court.  Don't get me wrong, Tebow is an excellent player, but his passions are running the ball for yardage and his bible verses on his eye black.  With Hansborough it's total commitment, total focus, makes his team mates look damn good and gives 150% every night, every shot, every rebound.  God knows, right AG, that he has his off nights, but the man never quits. I feel Tebow is happy to be at UF.  I feel Hansborough bleeds Carolina blue and will name his sons Roy and Dean.  To me, Handsborough is the best thng to hit UNC and especially college ball since Pete Maravich.  I can see the Cherokee Parks reference that Chachi_Azzhola spoke of and that might happen if he gets on an average team wth a weak coach who cuts his playing time.  I just see him as too focused and to intense to let that happen - he will make every second of his NMB play as a rooklie count, and probably piss a lot of older players off for it. As i sit here, he has a ton of personal characteristics of Maravich as well as skills and attitude towards the game.  Maybe another chance for us old guys and an opportunity to see Maravich reincarnated into Hansborough - what a beautiful thing to see.  THAT could begin to restore my faith in the NBA.

That's Lucy Pinder in the bottom right, not the random girl that Tebow was photographed with who he never went out with.

I agree, they both are great college players and neither of them will make a huge mark on the pros. Neither will be ROY, or multiple time all-pro. Tebow won't make many pro bowls, Hansborough won't make many all star teams. But I think Hansborough will be a servicible pro, along the lines of a Serge Zwikker or Sean May, perhaps Brendan Haywood level. But he won't be Vince Carter or Antwan Jamison, that is for sure.

Just for fun, where does Hansborough get drafted? Top 10? Top 15? My guess is somewhere toward the end of the first round, around 25th or so.
