Why West Virginia will play for a national championship:
by
Justin
10/28/06
As I write this USC is currently trailing Oregon State 30-10 with 7:02 left in the 3rd quarter. So if that outcome would to occur, USC losing, this is why West Virginia WILL play for a national championship.
1. Ohio State vs. Michigan
Like it or not folks one of the two best teams in college football will fall out of national championship contention after November 18th. Thus giving an open sport for the Mountaineers.
2. Pat White and Steve Slaton
This duo has racked up exactly 2500 total offense through seven games. That's 77.7% of the teams total offensive output not to mention the 24 total touchdowns.
3. Thirteen days off before playing Louisville
This is almost as long to prepare for a bowl game. Rich Rodriguez is a mastermind when it comes to developing game plans. The only downside is that the game is in Louisville.
4. Their defense
As long as their defense holds them in games, the Mountaineers will win games. Since 2001, the Mountaineers are 58-0 scoring 30 or more points.
5. Finally vs. Rutgers
Rutgers being undefeated until this point is the best thing that could happen for West Virginia. Rutgers high computer rankings will boost them into the National Championship game aft et a dominate win in a game that will be more of a blowout than most think.
Clearly there is a lot of factors from now until the final BCS ranking come out but right there are my 5 good reason you will see West Virginia competing for the championship. Oh and by the way, 33-17 Oregon State leads starting the 4th quarter.
