Game Info: No. 5 Wichita State vs. No. 12 Virginia Commonwealth, South Regional at Portland, Ore. 7:15 p.m. ET, CBS
About Wichita State:
The Shockers (27-5) are arguably the top mid-major team in the nation this season. They beat out Creighton for the Missouri Valley Conference title, and only two of their losses this season came to non-tournament teams. They also have blowout wins over three tournament teams on their resume: Colorado, UNLV and Creighton. At 77.7 points per game, they are a high-scoring team, but no one player dominates the ball for the Shockers. Their leading scorer and rebounder is senior center Garrett Stutz. With the 7-foot Stutz in the middle, Wichita State is also one of the nation's best rebounding teams.
About VCU:
The Rams (28-6) likely needed to win the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament this year, and they did just that with a thrilling win, breaking the hearts of Drexel's fans. Shaka Smart's Rams will try and repeat what they did last year when they snuck into the tournament as an at-large No. 11 seed and got all the way to the Final Four. VCU doesn't stand out in any statistical category, but they are well-coached and have deep tournament experience. Their leading scorer is senior Bradford Burgess at 13.3 points per game.
What's at stake?

Even though I half expected these two teams to meet in the 2nd round, I hate that the NCAA actually went thru with it. VCU is too good of a team to be a 12th seed and once again, Shaka Smart's team is going to give this tournament fits
