Will Brett Favre Return to the NFL Yet Again?
NFL, Rumors

There's Something About Mary

Now that the lockout is over we can return to what has been the burning question of every recent NFL off-season. WILL BRETT FARVE PLAY? There is a maxim about history repeating itself so we already know the answer to that question. The more flammable ones are WHERE and WHY?

As for WHERE? The Eagles have been mentioned with Brett playing backup to Michael Vick. Since Michael has already tweeted about it the rumor is credible. Since Michael later erased the tweet (at the command no doubt of Eagles’ brass) makes it even more so.

And as for WHY? Why abandon the retired life of bliss and comfort? Why give up the tractor-riding and home-cooking, the front porch at twilight with a glass of lemonade (or even bourbon) and the sizzle of bugs in the purple neon? Mostly - I’d say - because he can. Would you rather be a farmer or a quarterback? If you could still sling it (if you could have ever slung it) wouldn’t you? Of course you would. Isn’t that why we’re fans in the first place? Because we used to play and wish we still could; because we wish we’d been better; because we wish we’d gone further; because we dreamed of going pro? And because Brett can still go pro - because he can still play - Brett will still play. Nothing else (even a cameo with Cameron Diaz) can compare.

I was just coming in here to ask - when are these teams going to wake up and make it impossible for Brett to come back no matter how much he wants to, and just say no?

I thought he was looking to torture us forever with a broadcasting gig.

I think I could understand better how he's hanging around being wishy washy with this retirement nonsense if he didn't have a ring and wanted to keep trying. But dude - you're covered. Go away.

I love Brett but the Eagles? If he does go to the Eagles in a way I'll be P.O.ed because I cant root for the Eagles for many reasons!
