Will Canada Get What They Must Have? [USA/Canada Gold Medal Live Thread]

2/28/10 in Olympics, Summer   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Sorry for the late start, so I'll make it quick. Team USA are the surprise of the Olympic hockey tournament. Team Canada are the favorites, but dealing with the pressure of an entire nation. Canada will also be looking for revenge on Team USA after last week's upset.

Everyone knows the stakes. Q it up here with the final and most anticipated event of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

as for the game - im not a hockey fan, however i watched it over my NASCAR race and was glad I did - was an amazing game to be sure. grats to both sides on a hell of a hard fough game. Crosby is amazing.

what a way to end the games. Canada got what they wanted the most, and team USA, gave them everything they could handle. what a great game.

Fair enough to both.

If the players need a break after 6 games in two weeks they are really out of shape.

I don't think it is a physical rest they needed as much as just a day or two to come down from the emotions and recharge from having represented their countries, which for many was the culmination of dreams.

By the way, outside of the US and Canadian players, players DID get at least 1 day.

Furthermore, Detroit versus Colorado is the only game on Monday, thankfully-   I think the very small handful of players affected by Sunday's game will be able to physically play, and being some of the best of the best, I imagine they will perform at a fairly high level still.

I would have been in favor of waiting until Tuesday, but I will not spend much time worrying about it.   I mostly spoke up just to mention it was not an "out of shape" issue as much as a emotional drain/letdown/whiplash/etc. question.

Another US/Canada hockey game, another instant classic.  This was one of those games where it almost seems unfair that one side had to lose.  Back and forth action, great individual plays, stellar team defense and goaltending and an ending that almost seemed scripted in that Canada's golden boy nets the gold medal winner.  Congrats to Canada for achieving there destiny of winning gold on there home soil and congrats to the States for showing the world that US hockey will be a force to be dealt with in years to come.

I do because it is the only international baseball tournament where the best players in the world are playing.

Baseball was kicked out of the Olympic Games because MLB wouldn't let their top players play.  Nor should they have.

As a Canadian, that comment is extremely embarrassing.  WTG.

To the rest of my American fans, please believe me when I extend my sincere congratulations.  It was an incredible game, well played by both teams, and either team could easily have won the match.  No shame on either side, and no need for gloating.

Well, the USA "MUST" win this game just as much as Canada.  I'm getting kind of tired hearing how Canada HAS to win.

Early on, I was actually thinking it would be cool if Canada won gold, but not now.  And not because they are playing the USA.  Because I'm sick of the idea that the gold is a Canadian birthright.
