It seems that the Winnipeg Jets are in the process of completing all of the formalities of moving to another city.
"Our desire was to authenticate the name and make it as meaningful as we possibly could", stated the Jets co-owner Mark Chipman.
Before the new owners revealed the new logo to the fans and media, the top management was unsure of whether everyone would like the newly designed logo. Should they fail to attract fans, they might put the club’s newly established reputation at stake and they had a tough decision to make before the unveiling. However, the logo has been received well and it is believed that despite the fact that the old logo had its own sentimental value, the new logo brings about a new start for the franchise.
"True North Sports & Entertainment felt it was important for the new Winnipeg Jets to develop a strong new identity. We felt it was important to authenticate the name Jets and we believe the new logo does that through its connection to (Canada's) remarkable Air Force heritage, including the rich history and relationship that our city and province have enjoyed with the Canadian Forces,” stated the chairman.
No sooner that the logo was unveiled at the MTS Centre than fans from all parts of the city wanted to get their hands on the merchandise and lines were formed outside all the outlets around the area.
Some fans still believe that the old logo should’ve been retained, but the management believes that relocation brings about a new start and new start should have a new logo. Winnipeg will be playing their first season in the NHL in 10 years and play Montreal Canadians in October. The match promises to be a cracker and is something no one would want to miss.
