The three suspects, all 21-years-old, are students at the university and are being charged with substantial battery crimes after Ball sustained a concussion and bruised jaw.

Although there is no evidence, police are still investigating whether the attack was a direct result of an altercation Ball was in during a house party a few days earlier.

Ball finished his junior season with 2,229 all-purpose yards and tied Barry Sanders' NCAA record with 39 total touchdowns. He is expected to start the season opener against Northern Iowa this Saturday.

I'm sure the police will be investigating this for a while now.

I found it hilarious after the incident that people were actually suggesting that none of the attackers would have known Ball and that it could have been a random attack.  I know Madison is a very good size campus, however do people really think that three students their or even three non-students wouldn't know the star of the team and possible heisman finalist just from his press clippings during his career?
