It could be a while before we see the completion of Game 5 of the Series, at least according to weather reports. As I'm sure you all know, this is the first time a World Series game has ever been suspended because of rain. There was some question about whether the Rays had to score that tying run in the 6th in order to prevent a rainout win for the Phillies. But as Bud Selig made clear in the press conference following the game, he would have had the power to delay the game indefinitely as commissioner. So stop moaning Philly fans.
As of right now, the weather looks absolutely awful for Tuesday in Philly, so in all likelihood, this game won't resume until Wednesday.
The game will begin again at the usual start time for games during the World Series, which has been either 8pm or 8:30pm EST.
Obviously, this delay changes the whole strategy for the game when it begins again, and possibly changes the whole pitching matchups for the Series if we go beyond Game 5. If we're delayed until Wednesday, and the Series goes to a Game 7, Cole Hamels could easily pitch on full rest. In all honesty, I actually think the rain benefits the Phillies the most because of that.
I guess you could also say it benefits Philly because it turns out the Rays hotel was booked solid for Monday night, so they had to head to Wilmington, Delaware for their new hotel.
Anyway, we'll see what happens, and hopefully they'll complete Game 5 sooner rather than later.
