Blog Photo - Wrestling voted back into the Olympics

As it turns out, wrestling was only out of the Olympics for a few months. After originally being recommended for exclusion, the sport earned its way back into the Games in a vote today by the IOC. Wrestling beat out baseball/softball and squash in the voting.

Since they were initially kicked out, the wrestling federation has worked hard to make changes to the sport to make it more TV-friendly, as well as changed some rules to make scoring easier and easier to understand.

It's asinine that it got to this point, but wrestling's Olympic future is more secure now, and hopefully the next time the IOC wants to cut a sport, they look to one of the more obvious ones (*cough* modern pentathlon).

This was my very favorite non-football news of the weekend. I'm thrilled!
