Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIREThe Portland Trail Blazers have been using LaMarcus Aldridge this season the way you'd expect a team to use a former second overall pick, as he's taking a career high 20 shots per game. Aldridge has struggled mightily, however, and a recent tweet from Chris Haynes of CSN Northwest has revealed a possible cause of Aldridge's poor play.

Aldridge underwent a surprise X-ray before Tuesday night's game against the Kings, and later stated that he was surprised that the results came back negative. "He says he couldn't shoot the ball & it scared him," Haynes said of Aldridge on Twitter. "Says he thought something would come up in the X-ray."

Aldridge has had two straight miserable shooting nights, shooting 4-13 on Monday and 5-14 on Tuesday. This is just the latest of Aldridge's struggles, however. He has yet to top 48% shooting in any of his eight games this season, after shooting 50% or higher each of the past two seasons (49.3% on his career). Aldridge has also struggled rebounding the ball, averaging 5.2 boards over his past five games (has averaged 8+ in each of his past three seasons).

Aldridge said after Tuesday's game that he wouldn't miss time with the injury, but the Blazers are almost certain to run more tests on his wrist, considering how much it seems to be affecting his game. You can expect him to play on Friday against the Rockets, as Aldridge has given his word and has been playing his normal minutes (hasn't played less than 36 since November 5th), but if he continues to struggle and the pain in his wrist doesn't go away, he may be in for some sort of absence.

The Blazers can ill afford for Aldridge to miss time, as they have one of the thinnest benches in the league. If Aldridge were to be sidelined, we'd see quite a bit more of raw rookie Meyers Leonard, who has not brought much to the team aside from rebounding and a bit of shot blocking. Aldridge's status is worth monitoring for both fans and fantasy owners.
