Yankees May Attempt To Sign Jake Peavy, Derek Lowe, AJ Burnett
The Yankees Might Buy Every Pitcher In Baseball For Next Season
We all know what the Yankees' main problem was last season: their starting pitching wasn't very good. That's exactly the reason they've made that ridiculous 6-year, $140 million offer to CC Sabathia. But guess what, it won't end there. Not by a long shot.

Hank Steinbrenner has now openly admitted that the Yankees are also attempting to sign Derek Lowe and AJ Burnett.

"We're prepared to make offers to Burnett and Lowe."

Yep, I'd say that's pretty open. So now you think to yourself, if they get all these guys, they'll have Sabathia, Burnett, Lowe, Joba Chamberlain and Chien Ming Wang. Andy Pettitte also wants to return to New York as well.

That's one crazy rotation if everyone actually becomes a Yankee. But guess what, it could get even crazier. Yes, the Yankees apparently would like to end the season before it even begins, because they're also going after Jake Peavy.

Unfortunately, that's not a joke.

The Yankees' Brian Cashman and Padres' Kevin Towers discussed Padres right-hander Jake Peavy at the general managers' meetings earlier this month in Dana Point, Calif.

"Right now, I need to stay focused with National League clubs," Towers told Cashman. "If I'm not able to get close with any of them, I'll circle back to you."

Well, Towers is officially circling, and the Yankees remain interested in Peavy, despite their apparent plan to buy every top free-agent pitcher by the end of the weekend
.

I can't even imagine a rotation of Peavy, Sabathia, Joba, Wang, Burnett, and some Pettitte on the side. That's utterly ridiculous. There are fantasy teams that aren't that stacked. The Yankees seriously might win 130 games with that pitching staff.

Of course, the other question is what on earth would their payroll be? Probably pushing $300 million would be my guess.

Man, at that point you might as well just try and bribe Bud Selig for the World Series trophy too.

If there was anything that could cause the public outcry to force baseball into creating a salary cap, this would be it.  It would be hard to take anything seriously in baseball next year if they somehow pull this off.

I don't know why everyone is so against this; I'm all for it.

Let them pick up Peavy, C.C., Lowe and Burnett, have Wang come back at 100%, let them all be healthy all season long, and then see what kind of excuse Hank can come up with whenever the Yankees bow out in the Divisional Series again..

Seriously, I was calculating this out, and I'm not kidding when I say their payroll might be hovering around $260 million plus. That's ridiculous.

Damn.  Thats over $10 mil a player.  The Brewers ended up with a payroll around $90 mil last year and our owner estimated that at best we broke even.  How the heck are small and mid-sized markets supposed to keep up with that?

They're not supposed to keep up. That's the point.

While The Yankees were winning World Championships they had some of the best pitching in the game at that time. As time went on the pitching got old and for some they were gone. Joe Torre is a great manager and hide most of the pitching problems with a rotating bullpen but that couldn't even save him, so NOW they have to get the shutdown pitching they once had to even consider a championship. The bats were never a problem.

Yankees will be the first team to end up with a $1 billion payroll. I don't know who is more stupid, the team for pushing spending to the limit, or the fans willing to pay that much more for their games and merchandise. What, a Yankees ticket will become $250 in the nosebleeds? Geez. The money has to come from somewhere, and eventually if Yankees fans ARE smart, they will voice out that enough is enough. I can see it now:  people will have  to file for bankruptcy or debt relief after higher Yankees tickets/parking/ect. This situation is wrong on so many levels.

Hank Steinbrenner = The Death of baseball as we know it. The guy is a total moron. Worse than his father, which I didn't think was possible. It's time for a salary cap. This is getting ridiculous.

What an absolute joke!  When are these folks going to learn that you can't just buy a world series.
Learn from the team that they were looking up at this year, the Tampa Bay Rays.....they didn't spend a mint, they just played better.
(I'm a Cubs fan.....we can't buy a championship, either...)

They can have them all....Just don't take our only Starting Pitcher worth anything in S.D....Take anyone else you want though...

Yea I know. It has been a really long time since the Indians won anything.

BTW the NFL has a salary cap. The Cowboys CAN'T just buy players.

Actually, if the NFL cap disappears for the 2010 season and beyond, as it looks like will right now, then any player signed to a contract for 2010 or beyond can be paid anything. Some people have even speculated that Jerry Jones is already banking on this as the Cowboys current roster would be well over the salary cap in 2010 as it currently stands.

I'm well aware of the situation with the current CBA in the NFL. However for the current moment, there is a cap.

Agreed, and thanks for letting me know with the Salary cap thing, I was born in 1910,, lol. Just a joke bro, Jerry Jones does get them with a thing they call a signing bonus though...

Before we throw Hal under the bus lets give him a chance first. As long as George is still around there is NO BETTER advisor than DAD telling SON how to manuver in negotiations. We will know soon enough if Hal knows HOW TO SPEND or just wasting his money and our time. We all need to be a little patient for the time being.

Patient about what? They're wasting money already and continuing their destruction of the game as we know it. Something needs to be done.

BTW how can you be a Yanks AND Mets fan? Pick one.
