Yankees Sweep Red Sox; Terry Francona Gets Visit from MLB Uniform Police During Inning

Blogging the bases from Thursday's MLB action ...

On a day when college football took the stage, baseball's intensity went up a notch.

Yankees 5, Red Sox 0 Where to start? First, Kevin Youkilis was absolutely out, they made the right call, albeit the 2nd time around. I don't see how you can even argue this point, he ran into the grass. Grass is not the basepath. Now I'm not exactly sure his complaints justified Joe Torre giving Joba Chamberlain the go ahead for chin music. What's that? You don't think that was intentional? Have you seen Joba struggle to get the ball over the plate at any point this season? It does make this baseball series one of the best, though. If indeed, you'd call it baseball.

Terry Francona told the media that during Wednesday's game, he was paid a visit by the MLB uniform police DURING AN INNING. As you can imagine, Terry was not amused, especially with Derek Jeter on base.
"Unless that [expletive] RSA can keep Jeter close, he needs to stay out of the dugout," Francona said. "That was about as embarrassed as I've been in a long time for baseball."
This may be one of the most ridiculous stories I've heard. Peter Gammons is correct: Someone needs to be fired. If the MLB comes up with any form of an explanation instead of an apology I'll be ever more stunned.

Phillies 11, Mets 10 Just your run of the mill game and series. Unreal. Time to believe in Philadelphia again after a 4-game sweep that was entertaining as any fan could ask. 3 straight days the Phillies finished off the Mets with a Ryan Howard HR, rare base running call and a Chase Utley single. A 6 game lead is now 2. Suddenly, Eagles season has some competition.

Now that college football has kicked off, I suppose it's time for ESPN to go back to non-stop Yanks/Sox until next Thursday.

Cry me a freaking river. Maybe someday the Cubs will be worth covering, and ESPN will mention you guys, too.

Your whines about Sox-Yanks on ESPN and the unfortunate plight of offensive linemen are getting tiresome, even when I agree with you.

Good one. But it's only funny 3,291 times.
