Yankees get a DH in Raul Ibanez
Ibanez is expected to be the Yankees' main designated hitter this season, a spot that was opened up by the retirement of Jorge Posada and the trade of Jesus Montero to the Seattle Mariners.
Ibanez is likely to platoon with Andruw Jones, with Ibanez playing against right-handed pitchers, and Jones against lefties. Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez both will likely DH at least once a week as well.
Yankee Stadium appears to be a good fit for Ibanez's left-handed swing. With the short porch in right field at the Stadium, the Yankees hope Ibanez can steal a few home runs there.
Last season the 39-year-old Ibanez hit .245 with 20 home runs and 84 RBI with the Philadelphia Phillies.
