Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure believes Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement will help his side regain the advantage they had in the Premier League. The Ivory Coast midfielder claims Sir Alex Ferguson’s absence will see Manchester United’s dominance decline in the Premier League and on the European scale.

Yaya Toure insists Manchester City should start building reputation for a team that is hungry for success and trophies. The 29-year-old midfielder has recovered from injury and is set to play in the FA Cup final against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Manchester United stole the Premier League title from Manchester City this season. The Eastlands will be second on the table once the Premier League season ends, yet Manchester United will be able to boast about a huge lead over their derby rivals.

Yaya Toure believes Manchester City will have the edge in the Premier League now that Sir Alex Ferguson is gone. The Ivorian claims the race for the Premier League title will open up next season.

“United are a great club and Ferguson is a big character there,” Yaya Toure said. “He has built everything at United and the balance, I hope, will go to the City side now. We will see next year. There will be a lot of rivalry between Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and United. Tottenham are coming through and the Premier League is going to be very, very tough.

“You look at next season and it will be a good summer for the media in the sense that a lot of clubs have to become better and a lot of clubs are hoping for a better season. I have said that anyone who thinks the Premier League is going backwards is making a huge mistake. Next season will be harder than ever.

“Sir Alex has done great things for football and for Manchester United. Fair play to them but we are writing our own history. We can do that on Saturday again.”

Yaya Toure understands the importance of the FA Cup victory. The final at Wembley will be Manchester City’s last shot at acquiring any kind of silverware this season. Manchester City have won the Premier League and the FA Cup over the last two seasons, stull Yaya Toure has urged his team to focus on winning more trophies.

“Every year is important for the club because we want this to be a big club. We let the Premier League trophy go to United but now we want to win this one” Yaya Toure added. “We must keep winning trophies - that is why I signed a new contract.

“I want to be part of the history of the club. We have already started that - we have already won some trophies. I hope there is going to be more, like the Champions League, the Premier League and the FA Cup.”
