Yi Jianlian Has 3 More Points Than Fouls in His Bucks Debut
READ MORE:

Yi Jianlian started for the Milwaukee Bucks ... because the Chinese government said so! How did he do? Well, 9 points and 6 fouls.

Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak was encouraged, but the Chinese probably forced him to say so as part of the deal.

"I'll look at it again," Krystkowiak said. "I thought he did pretty well compared to what took place today and some of the (media) circus that's going on. I think he's got an awful lot on his mind, opening-day jitters and the whole thing.

"I think he's going to be fine at the end of the day."

I'm sticking with my prediction Yi turns out as one of biggest busts of this draft class. You?

I think people are being a little too harsh on him this morning.  The guy is barely 20 years old, playing his first NBA game, adjusting to America (and Milwaukee; ouch) and he actually didn't play too badly, except for the fouls.  A guy with his size that can shoot and block shots has the potential to be a very good player, once he becomes accustomed to the NBA's style of play.

Count me as a believer.

Probably not.  But whether he is 20 or 25, I still think he had an okay game, and not one that should be ridiculed as much as I've seen it this morning, considering it was his first NBA game.    At least Yi was on a pace for a respectable pace of about 15 and 6 on 80% shooting with about 3-4 blocks (if he played 40 minutes).

I guess it just annoys me a little bit that the blogosphere's tendency to be negative leads good blogs to sprint to the finish line to be the first one to trash on players, instead of seeing the positive side of things.  Just one man's opinion, of course.

More than fair. I agree you with on the negativity front. More times than not it's forced.
That said, it's boring when everyone loves everybody. I haven't by high on Yi from the get-go. I think it's a red flag when a player refuses to work out against other NBA players AND hasn't faced a whole lot of physical competition. He is a good shooter, though, and that's more than can be said for a lot players.

I really don't think Yi's game was bad, assuming he can count down on the fouls.  If he can't do that he won't play enough to matter.

Certainly.  And it's absolutely justified sometimes, like Lebron's game last night.  I just think this is one of those times when it's really forced.  His game just wasn't that bad.

And I can certainly understand your belief that Yi could be a bust;  it's definitely a possibility.  I just disagree, because his size and skills aren't very coomon, even in the NBA.

Obviously the situations are much different, but I will point out that Yao's first game was worse. Remember him getting stolen in the back court by Jeff Foster?
