Joyner did not have a great season. Pardes beat a better team in the Braves but could not over come the Yankees, their luck ran out.
There was great ball they had a soild game. Most people are fair weather fans out there. Even the $5 dollar seat on Monday were bare till the all star game. Woring on Firars RD we would leave work and buy tickets at the gate and get great seats. Again we are not talking about juicing, talking about playing. Besides juicing does not make you hit a ball or even play the game. If it did, many people in IB and PB would be playing.

Wally Joyner and Gary Gaetti and Mike McFarlane may not be hall of famers, but they did swing some pretty good sticks. The Royals with Cone were way better offensively than this Giants team. Cone spent part of a season with the Jays... Funny how you consider a team that won the World Series to be one of the leagues worst teams. Cain has been a better pitcher at this point than Pettitte ever was. Sanchez only recently seemed to discover how to pitch, but if he keeps it up, he will be twice the pitcher Pettitte ever was. Pettitte never had a "prime". He has been a solid serviceable pitcher almost his whole career. Not bad but far from a great one.

Anyone watching the game could see it, and if it was not for a ball hitting the bag the score would have 0-0. The ball hits the bag and Hunter throws a bad ptich and down 2-0. Hunter would not have been lite up and seeing how you talk about great pitchers you would not be able to tell. Giants are no way superior to the Rangers I do not have to get around it beacuse it is not there.

Yes. Saves are easy. Ever wonder why guys with ERA's in the high 4's can get 30 of them? Because they are EASY to get. Batters didn't start swinging at the 6 inch outside pitch from Glavine until they realized the umpires were GIVING him that pitch. Kinda hard to hit balls that far out of the zone safely. And kinda tough to take it knowing the ump will call it strike. No, I will not be saying Seaver was average. Seaver was great.

I did bring up the pen. But the quality of the arms. Not the number of saves they got. Cone never pitched for a team with an offense as anemic as the Giants. When Wells did, he lost games. Wells wasn't a very good pitcher anyway. Pettitte helped the 'Stros sure. But that doesn't mean he was great. The Astros had a very good offense, too. Ever hear of Jeff Bagwell or Craig Biggio? Yes, you have to be able to pitch a little... But if you team scores 8 runs a game for you, all you need is to not give up more than 7!

Did those pitchers who threw no hitters also lose their games? I was explaining how weak the Giants offense is. Hunter was indeed struggling. Wash saw it. If he was pitching fine, Wash would never have taken him out after a mere 4 innings. He doesn't hit so there would be no need. Madison adapted to the umps rotating strike zone. Good pitchers do that. Hunter didn't. Woulda shoulda coulda.... Funny how a ball hitting a base and a hitter nailing a mistake seem to happen to the GOOD teams.... The Rangers have only been shut out once this year, yet these "mediocre" arms just did it to them TWICE in 4 games... I think you are being blinded my your emotions in this case....

Have you ever watched Glavine pitch? He lived 6 inches off the plate. He made a career of throwing balls that umps called strikes. And he went nuts the few times umps didn't give it to him. Good call with the '86 Mets. But I think the Giants staff edges them out. Yeah, those Yankee pitchers were merely adequate. Looking at how they did with other teams only supports what I said about them. Yes, saves are worthless. The bull pen isn't about saves. It's about bailing out starters and keeping teams in games. Getting a save is SUPER easy. Why do you think the Braves didn't hit? They were facing great pitching! Besides, the Braves were a 2nd place team so we were looking past them...

I never said their staff sucks nor did I say they could not pitch. Rangers starters match up against the Gaints. Even with tonights. Madison pitched well, and there were great defense behind that kept him in command. Hunter threw one pitch that hurt him and it was to your HR hitter after a ball hit the bag and torres went in for a double. I do not even think Hunter is that good. Still kept the Rangers in the game.
No, the staff IS a lot better. There just is no way around it. Their wins and losses would be ever better if the Giants had decent bats. Sanchez threw TWO one hitters this year and LOST. Madison had good D behind him, but so did Hunter. Hunter looked to be struggling all night. The only reason he only gave up 2 was because the Giants offense sucks. I sensed Hunter was about to get lit up and Wash felt the same. It's why he was pulled after 4. If he were doing well, he would have stayed in the game. Sorry Chief... But the Giants arms are just VERY superior to the Rangers. There is no way around it.

jaysinw wrote: lol you said you had to look at the whole season. So you must use the numbers, the numbers are what get you into the HofF. I do agree the number do not always tell the story, which is why I cannot see you saying the Giants have a great staff? Even compare to the Rangers. Offense we do not have to go to by the numbers the Rangers have the edge just looking at the BA, OBP, SLG. HR and RBI the Giants spread it amongst its players more. Rangers a few have big numbers. Using the numbers in post season the Rangers by far is the better team offensively. Like I said we are not going to agree, it is best to just agree to disagree.
Are you serious? You can compare them, look at the Reds their stats are right up there with the Rangers.

jaysinw wrote: Yeah ok Petite was medicore at best... I wold have him pitch before Sanchez and Cain in a heart beat. Even at 38. Just look at his first 4 years against Lincercum, Petite would will. Giants Roster Sanchez is not a great pitcher, Cain has good stuff not consist his best year was last year. That is like saying Kenny Rodgers was a great pitcher. You are a loyal fan I see, but the Giants staff is not even close of being superior.
Their staff is not a lot better then the Rangers. Cain had a decent year. Look again he had 4 games which the Giants did not score anything.
