Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Alex Rodriguez finished 3-for-3, homered, scored three times and drove in five as the New York Yankees used an early barrage of offense to subdue Kansas City, 15-6, in the series finale of a three-game set from Yankee Stadium.
Jason Giambi hit a grand slam for the Yankees, who won the final two games of the set and scored 10 times over the first two innings to seal the win Sunday. Cody Ransom added his first homer of the season, while Derek Jeter added four hits and scored three times.
Mike Mussina (16-7) survived a rough patch early to record the win, allowing six hits and three runs over six innings, fanning five without a walk en route to his third straight positive decision.
Billy Butler and Ross Gload each knocked in two runs for the Royals, who have dropped five of six.
KC starter Brian Bannister (7-12) suffered the loss, shelled for 10 hits and 10 runs over one-plus innings. He is now 0-6 with three no-decisions in last nine starts.
