Recap: Detroit vs. Minnesota
By Sports Network
Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Brendan Harris homered and drove in a season- high four runs as Minnesota withstood a late rally to edge Detroit, 6-5, in the third installment of a four-game set at Comerica Park.
Joe Mauer collected two hits including a two-run shot for the Twins, who have won each of the first three games in the series.
Scott Baker (6-2) won for the fourth time in five outings, allowing six hits and four runs over seven innings, fanning four without a walk. Joe Nathan pitched a scoreless final inning to record his 27th save.
Matt Joyce and Curtis Granderson each hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, whose charge from a four-run deficit fell just short. Ryan Raburn knocked in the other run.
Nate Robertson (6-8) surrendered 10 hits and five runs over seven innings. The left-hander hasn't won since June 21, a span of four starts.
Harris led off the seventh inning by launching a solo homer to right field off Robertson and gave the Twins the lead once more at 3-2. After retiring Denard Span and Carlos Gomez, Robertson allowed a single to Alexi Casilla then a two- run home run to Mauer for a 5-2 Twins advantage.
Craig Monroe worked a walk to start the eighth against Aquilino Lopez, moved to third on a Brian Buscher double and scored on a Harris sacrifice fly for a 6-2 game.
After Ramon Santiago's single to start the bottom of the frame, Granderson's two-run homer cut the Tigers' deficit to 6-4. Jesse Crain entered the game but allowed a single to Placido Polanco and a walk to Carlos Guillen before striking out Miguel Cabrera. Dennys Reyes relieved Crain and uncorked a wild pitch to advance both runners. Raburn made it 6-5 with a pinch-hit groundout, but Marcus Thames ended the rally when he grounded to third facing Brian Bass.
Joel Zumaya held Minnesota off the scoreboard in the ninth despite loading the bases. Nathan allowed a one-out walk to Brandon Inge, but fanned the other three batters he faced to preserve the one-run victory.
Minnesota got on the board in the second inning, as Morneau led off with a base hit and scored on Harris' two-out RBI single.
Harris added another run-scoring single in the fourth to put the Twins up 2-0, but Detroit responded in its turn on Joyce's two-run blast.
