Recap: North Carolina vs. UNC-Asheville

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - Ty Lawson scored 22 points and had eight assists, as top-ranked North Carolina continued to roll with a 116-48 thrashing of UNC-Asheville.
Ed David added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels (7-0), who won despite playing without reigning national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough. He was out with a right shin injury, but the Tar Heels didn't really need his services, as they raced to a 34-point halftime lead and cruised in the final 20 minutes.
Danny Green tallied 18 points, and Deon Thompson chipped in 17 points and nine boards. Wayne Ellington scored 13 and dished out six assists for North Carolina.
Jason Ridenhour had eight points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-3), who shot 26.5 percent from the field.
A layup by John Williams moved UNC-Asheville to a 6-2 lead, but the Tar Heels responded with a 13-1 spurt to take control. Lawson's three-pointer capped the rally.
A jam by Williams had the visitors within 17-12, but the Tar Heels exploded for an 18-2 push to pull away for good. Bobby Frasor's three-pointer culminated the flurry with just over six minutes left in the half, and the margin stood at 53-19 at intermission.
The Tar Heels, who finished at 57.1 percent from the field, hit on 21-of-38 attempts in the first half.
Thompson's dunk made it a 40-point spread at 68-28 nearly five minutes into the second half.
