Recap: Detroit vs. Minnesota
By Sports Network
Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Adrian Peterson had 102 rushing yards while Tarvaris Jackson took over for an injured Gus Frerotte to give the Minnesota Vikings a 20-16 win over Detroit to keep the Lions winless on the season.
Peterson carried the ball 23 times and added a 15-yard reception while Jackson went 8-for-10 for 105 yards and a score in relief of Frerotte, who left the game in the second quarter with a lower back injury. Frerotte went 7-for-10 for 70 yards and two interceptions before departing.
Visanthe Shiancoe had five catches for 65 yards and a score while Chester Taylor added a 17-yard touchdown run for the Vikings (8-5), who have won three straight.
Minnesota maintained its one-game lead over Chicago, which defeated Jacksonville, for first place in the NFC North. It was the last division game of the season for Minnesota as the team went 4-2 in the North.
Daunte Culpepper went 14-for-24 with 220 yards and a score while Calvin Johnson had three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown for the Lions (0-13), who have now dropped 14 straight overall since a 25-20 home win over Kansas City last December 23.
Detroit may have seen its best chance to win a game this season pass by as the team plays in Indianapolis next Sunday before returning home for a game against New Orleans. The Lions then close out their season on the road in Green Bay.
The Lions are now facing the prospect of being the first team since the league went to a 16-game format to finish a full season without a win. Tampa Bay went 0-14 in its inaugural year of 1976 while the Colts finished 0-8-1 during the strike-shortened 1982 season.
