Recap: Baltimore vs. Washington
By Sports Network
Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Joe Flacco capped a time-consuming fourth- quarter drive with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Mason, as the Baltimore Ravens continued their push to the playoffs by beating the Redskins, 24-10, in the Battle of the Beltway, putting a damper on Washington's postseason hopes.
Ed Reed had a pair of interceptions and returned a fumble for a touchdown for the Ravens (9-4), who won for the seventh time in eight contests and remain the top team in the AFC wild card race. They are also still a game behind Pittsburgh for the lead in the AFC North with a meeting against the Steelers looming next Sunday in Baltimore.
Flacco completed 10-of-21 passes for 134 yards and was picked off once. LeRon McClain gained 61 yards on 20 carries with a TD for the Ravens.
Jason Campbell connected on 21-of-37 passes for 218 yards with a TD and two interceptions for the Redskins (7-6), who are now behind four teams in the NFC wild card race. Washington, which has lost two straight and four of its last five games. have contests left at Cincinnati, home versus Philadelphia and at San Francisco.
The Ravens bottled up running back Clinton Portis, limiting him to 32 yards on 11 carries. In his last two games, Portis has compiled just 54 yards on the ground.
The Redskins trailed 17-0 going into the fourth quarter, but Shaun Suisham kicked a 43-yard field goal with 13:40 remaining after LaRon Landry's interception gave Washington excellent field position.
Ravens running back Willis McGahee then fumbled while fighting for extra yards and left the game with a right shoulder stinger. The Ravens challenged the call but lost, and the Redskins had it at the Baltimore 30.
A short time later, Campbell's five-yard touchdown pass to Antwaan Randle El on a fourth down play with 11:27 left brought the Redskins within seven points.
The Ravens then chewed nearly eight minutes off the clock on a 12-play, 83- yard drive. The only pass came on 3rd-and-5 when Flacco loaded up and found Mason behind the coverage on the right side of the field. Although the ball was under thrown, Mason made the grab and powered into the end zone with 3:35 remaining.
Reed fittingly ended any hopes of a Redskins comeback with his second interception of the night, coming with 1:53 left.
McClain scored on an eight-yard run three minutes into the game, after the Ravens were set up near midfield following Reed's interception.
Reed then stripped the ball from Portis and raced 22 yards for a score with 9:30 left in the opening quarter.
Matt Stover's 32-yard field goal with 4:11 left in the third made it a 17-0 affair.
