Recap: Edmonton vs. Colorado
By Sports Network
Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Wojtek Wolski scored a pair of goals to lead the offense, while Craig Anderson turned aside all 25 shots he faced to record his ninth career shutout, as the red-hot Colorado Avalanche took down the Edmonton Oilers, 3-0, in a battle between these two Northwest Division foes at Rexall Place.
Anderson, who registered his second shutout of the season, has made 12 consecutive starts to begin the year, a club record. He also holds a team mark with nine wins in October.
Milan Hejduk added a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have won three in a row to improve to 9-1-2 on the young season. Scott Hannan had an assist for Colorado, which started a four-game road trip on Tuesday.
Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 31-of-33 shots for the Oilers, who have lost three in a row after a three-game winning streak.
The Avalanche scored just 25 seconds into the game to take an early edge. The Oilers failed to clear the disc out of their zone, and Hejduk was there to gather the loose puck and fire a wrister from the bottom of the right circle past Khabibulin.
Khabibulin had 10 saves and Anderson stopped seven shots in a scoreless second frame.
Wolski's goal at the 9:34 mark of the third put Colorado ahead 2-0. Wolski won the puck along the right boards at center ice before charging into the Edmonton zone. He made a sharp move to his left at the net before chipping the disc into the back of the cage.
With 1:47 to play, Wolski added an empty-net goal to seal the win.
