Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Maple Leafs placed goaltender Vesa Toskala on injured reserve on Tuesday with an injured groin.

Toskala, whose injury occurred in Monday's game against the Islanders, has started nine games for Toronto this season and has a record of 1-4-2.

Joey MacDonald has been recalled from the Marlies, the Leafs' AHL affiliate, to take Toskala's spot on the roster. MacDonald has seen action in three games with the Leafs this season, all resulting in defeats.

Jonas Gustavsson is expected to start in net Wednesday, when Toronto faces Tampa Bay.

The club also announced forward John Mitchell was placed on injured reserve, while forward Christian Hanson was recalled from the AHL's Marlies.

Mitchell, who has two goals and seven assists with Toronto this season, suffered a knee injury on Monday.

Hanson was the Marlies' No. 1 scorer this season with eight goals and 10 assists in 18 games.
