Yeahhhh, if you're a big ol' loser!

Kidding.  Winning is nice, but participating and doing your best is more important in the end.
#2 | 13 days ago

Participating is more important- one gets to learn about him/herself and team mates.

But, winning rocks!!

If you're talking pro sports - winning is everything!

If you're talking kids playing and learning a sport - participating means more - winning is icing on the cake!

participating is the main reason to play sports, as you get the feeling of helping your team achieve its goal, hopefully a win, but if you lose, at least you know you did your best, and all some kids are taught is win, win, win, and when they lose, what do they do.........CRY.

Why would you do anything if you are not trying to excel or win?  seems like a bit of a waste of time

If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?

I agree.. I coach my daughters softball team.. They always asked if we won, I would always ask them if they had fun, because if they had fun the were winners to me..  We have been undefeated for 3 years.. so we were winning, I just didnt want them to think we were the best..  After last  year, I was told not to come back...  The other coaches from the other teams  didnt like the fact that I was teaching my kids  how to play the game.. the right way!!!   I think they were just tired of losing

Sports without winning is like sex without a partner.

Or something like that....

You just have to understand both sides of the coin...participating is fun and important and build team work friendship and pride in yourself but also that even though winning isnt everything its a part of it and you should be proud of how well  you did and if you didnt win that it is something to strive towards. The trophies and medals will gather dust and get lost the friendships and sense of achievement will stay with you forever so think of yourself as a winner all the time.

As long as when they participate they are giving 100 percent effort then thats what is important in everything but professional sports.  There they need to win because that is what they are paid to do.

I always tell my kids when their teams doesn't win.....at least you played hard!

Participating in a team is important  so is winning since that is your main goal as a team.

Participation, I think, or one of the best methods of educating.....Such happiness as life is capable of…. comes from the full participation of all our powers in the endeavor to wrest from each changing situations of experience its own full and unique meaning....&  how can one win without participation…. only by participation you know where you are.

That is what I tell my 7 year old when he is playing something. His flag football team went undefeated this season BTW.

Do your best ... is all we ask. We cheer him on, try to give pointers and all that. But we don't push him too hard. We want him to excel but even more, we want him to participate.
