3/31 - The FanIQ Home Run Streak (Edited 03/31/08 12:23PM by RenegadeLG)
Kicking off the 2008 MLB season in style, this one's for chicks and guys alike that dig the long ball.  Nightly, I'll produce a list of random sluggers.  While the list will be primarily HR leaders, it will also include some random players based on match-ups and the park in which the game is being played.  Even the best home run hitters will rarely hit more than 50 in a 162 game season, so it's going to be extremely challenging and nearly impossible to ride the coattails of a hot streak as occasionally possible in the Goal Streak.  Think you got what it takes?

The rules are identical to tpowell25's Hit Streak save the obvious - it's Home Runs instead of straight Hits.

As with the Hit Streak, this poll will also include an Injury List

Input is welcome.  A baseball season provides plenty of time to work out any kinks.  Good Luck everyone and let's make this poll as competitive and fun as the Goal Streak!

One thing that would be great....could you post a link to the probable pitchers for the day?  Just a thought.
+3 thumbs upI was thinking about including the pitcher next to the game on the Batters list (like vs LAD (Penny) ), I just haven't found a definitive list of opening day starters yet.  Still time to get injured, too.  Definitely on base with you with that thought process though.  Good idea for the hit streak too.  Link to a list is definitely easier.
1. Ryan Howard (PHI) vs WSH  2. 2-3  3. Milwaukee @ Chicago Cubs

And I'll be using Standard distance as that's how they go down in the books but HT's True Distance is a truly remarkable stat.

He can use this:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hrtracker

If you click on complete list, there is a space for distance. The home runs hit in Japan don't have it, but I looked at some of the days from last year and they had it on there.
1. Alex Rodriguez (NYY) vs TOR  2. 2-3  3. Toronto @ New York Yankees

Yeah, it was a great find, they have links to video of every homer too.  Really in depth.  Goes into speed off bat and everything.  Check out your boy's tape measure shot http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/multimedia/tp_archive.jsp?c_id=ari&ym=200709 it's the leadoff homer on 9/22

123 mph off the bat, 476/495 Standard/True - Shot of the year.

+2 thumbs upI remember that one. Farthest HR I've seen hit there, other than roided-out McGwire's shot off the "Front Row" sign above that section (he did that in BP though). He broke the "R" so it read "Front ow" for a while.

Still not takers for Rowand.  He's going to be the Mats Sundin of HRs right out of the gates.

If you don't mind all of the extra typing, that will work.  Once opening day gets here (probably a day or 2 before), mlb.com will have a list of probables every day.  You could just post that same link on every poll.  It's usually on the money, even with late scratches.  That way, you don't have to worry about editing a poll if a pitcher gets scratched that day or, if you don't get to edit it in time, you don't have to worry about incorrect data on the poll.

Just a thought.  Trying to make your job easier.  Either way works for me.  As long as I get to see which pitcher that they are facing.  (without searching for it myself.  I tend to get lazy)

I explained it on the 4/1 poll.  The people that took A-Rod today can take him tomorrow if they so choose.  And if it happens in the future and you're in the middle of a streak it won't count against you.
