Awww Mom and Dad..... (Edited 07/21/08 10:29PM by Seth)

When i use to get in trouble or do something my parents didn't like they would always and still sometimes do throw out a pretty funny saying or "threat".

Now I'm pretty sure that I'm going to use those sayings on my kids someday because in certain situations i don't think there is anything else to say.

What sayings have you used for your kids, nieces, nephews or just any kid in general that your parents have used on you?

+6 thumbs upI tell my nephew there is a ghost that lives in our attic.   He answers him by knocking once or twice.  Its fun for everyone.  He even got a b-day card from the ghost

When i use to bring home a bad grade for a ridiculous reason my mom would always say to me, "Until you bring that up i'm gonna be on your a** like white on rice" haha so funny now even though back then it would scare me to death. Just last night my mom used a saying i had never heard her say, we were coming in the house and i can't even remember what was going on but my mom said " I'm gonna crack your head like a knuckle!" omg i laughed so hard at that i'm def gonna write that one down so i can use it on my kids someday.

+2 thumbs upwhen my friend kids were arguing over a broken watch while we were going down the road, i told them the first time to "quit or i would take it and throw it out the window", they stopped for a little bit, and started back up yelling and screaming at eachother, i turned around and said "can i see it??" the oldest handed it to me, and out the window it went. my mom used to do that to my brother and i all of the time.

+4 thumbs upI don't have kids, but I always whisper to my friends kid that the garden gnome is going to get him when he sleeps.  Then I put a garden gnome at the foot of his bed.
Kids love me.

When my sister and I would argue in the car, my mom would threaten to stop the car and let us out, but she never did. Me on the other hand, I have stopped the car and let them out when my kids were arguing in the car.

+3 thumbs upWhen I would bug my dad sometimes, he'd say "Why don't you go play in the street?" I knew he was joking, but still...LOL...Also, where I grew up, I had a creek with a nice swimming hole in my backyard and I'd say, "DAD!! I'm going swimming!!!" and he'd yell back, "DON'T GET WET!!!!".....He's still a smart @$$...LOL

Mom: "If you don't finish your plate of food, you won't get anymore to eat for the rest of the night! Don't you know there are starving children in CHINA!" (I swear, she said China)

Little Rheda: Knew better than to say "Then send them this okra!"

+1 thumbs upsometimes I tell them that if they want to have someone to boss around and make do things, then they should should have their own kids. they both know that I am teasing them, and it usually ends up with us all laughing and whatever was causing the problem in the first place to be forgotten. (and as much as i said i wouldnt...  i do say all the things my parents said to me!)

My Dad used to tell me "I'm not raising you to be lazy and stupid.  Get out and do ______ !"

My Mom would say "If you watch to much TV (play to many video games/computer, etc) your brain will turn to mush, and drip right out your nose!"

I use both of them with my boys.

Little Jess did not know better than to say stuff like that...I always got the "starving kids" bit and I always said "then send them this..." They'd always say "Better yet, I'll send them you"

+1 thumbs upMy mom seemed to enjoy repeating Bill Cosby.  I wasn't until I first saw his stand up that I realized my mom didn't coin those phrases.

My mom always said "Get your butt in gear!!"

I always wanted to be like "1st or 2nd gear?"

But I knew that'd make it worse!

i JUST TELL THEM i WANT THE TRUTH i WILL EXPLAIN THAT THEY WILL GIVE ME THIER SIDE THEN I WILL BE CHECKING WITH OTHERS AND I WILL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AND ALL i WANT IS THE TRUTH . WHAT HAPPENED WILL BE DEALT WITH BUT IT WON'T BE AS BAD AS LYING ABOUT IT.  WHEN THEY SEE I AM SERIOUS ABOUT ASKING AND WANTING TRUTH THAT IS WHAT i GET AND AS FAR AS THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM IT HARDLY EVER IS SERIOUS, AND KIDS LEARN TO BE HONEST

+2 thumbs upOnce upon a time I was taking my little brother and sister out somewhere and they were arguing in the backseat of my car.  I said "don't make me turn this car around!" and then laughed to myself since it was something my Mom always threatened to do.  They kept fighting so I suddenly jumped into the turn lane and ripped up the e-brake and by the time I turned in my seat they were both wide eyed in shock and promising perfect behavior "just PLEEEAAASE don't take us home!"  It was great.

+1 thumbs upMy parents never really used threats on me like that, but my grandmother did.
She always threatened to "sell me to the gypsies."
