Cameo, it's like candy
Betcha thought this was a music storyteller poll about a high top fade and a red protective cup, right? No. No it isn't.

It's about the best cameos in movies or TV. I've been having a running dialog this afternoon on the subject and here are some of my all-timers in no particular order: (there are many, many more I'm forgetting obviously.)

John Candy**, Home Alone. His bit in the back of the truck about leaving the kid at the funeral home is off the charts.

Alec Baldwin, Glengarry Glen Ross. Coffee is for closers!!!!!

Ralph Fiennes, Hurt Locker. Total badd@zz.

And the grand daddy of them all imo: Christopher Walken, Pulp Fiction. If this needs further explanation you're getting defriended.

Now talk amongst yourselves - hopefully on this subject - but know that trolling and hijacking is always welcome.

**See what I did there? He was the inspiration for the poll.

Can I do guest spots, too? Cause the first thing that came to mind was Jeff Goldblum on The League... and I could do this all day with SVU alone...

Bob Barker in Happy Gilmore.

Hmmmm, good question. I think that may deserve it's own separate poll tho? Cameo is more of a "one off" scene deal, over very small, but extremely memorable part. Think Winona Ryder in Black Swan. That's where I was going.

I always consider cameo when the actor has a bit part as "themselves" so i'll go with that...but i understand the "technical" definition

Good call. Actually the convo with my friends started over whether or not the two dudes from 90210 playing themselves in Domino was considered a cameo or just an "as themselves" credit for small supporting roles. Which of course lead to our faves.

Hmm...  It's looking like many are expanding cameos to include guest spots and full fledged supporting roles.  Like the great John Cleese episode of Cheers.  I always saw a cameo as a very short bit.  Usually not more than one scene.  Like the mentioned Stan Lee cameos in all the Marvel movies or how Alfred Hitchcock showed up somewhere in all of his movies.

But my vote goes to Hugh Jackman's X-Men: First Class cameo.  Possibly the best use of the one allowed PG-13 F-Bomb ever.
Among the best TV cameos has to be Suzanne Plashette showing up at the very end of the last episode of Newhart.  (Which is arguably the best TV show finale of all time)
And a bit more obscure...  Mathew Macfadyen showing up very briefly in the final moments of the series 10 of MI-5 (or Spooks as it is known in the UK).  Only people who watched the show know how cool that was.

The mistake in that line of thinking is assuming popularity = quality.

Plus, I threw in the work "arguably" to reenforce the subjectivity of the comment.

In the extras for that movie (surpisingly funny, btw) it was said that Depp wouldn't do the cameo as his old character unless he got killed.

I myself had no idea who he was playing as I never watched the show 21 Jump Street.
