I'm tired of hearing fans of certain teams, and fans that hate certain teams complain. If you want to run with the big boys then DO IT! No is stopping any of these teams like the Marlins and the Twins but themselves. The Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers etc. aren't doing anything illegal! They are spending money! If you think you can't be competitive with that with your $20 million dollar payroll (which you probably can't) THEN SPEND SOME DAMN MONEY! I can't help it that all the damn owners in MLB are cheap.

With all that said, there is a small problem in baseball that needs to be fixed. It was made evident by the Johan Santana situation. The Twins offered Santana 5 years at $18.6 million per year, and he laughed and them and told them that he was insulted by the offer. Insulted by an amount of money that it would take me 372 years to make at my current salary. That is insane. Baseball needs a cap on PLAYERS salaries. That way the teams that want to be cheapos can keep some of their players without worry that someone will pay them some astronomical amount that you can't afford.
+6 thumbs up

This is a silly argument so I will keep it short.  Some owners in MLB are cheap.  Most of the teams with small payrolls cannot spend more because they take a loss every year.  They have no revenue from advertising, local media/cable, and much of the national money is unfairly divided.  Their brand is not as recognizable as Yanks/Sox and so merch sales are lower.  Furthermore the Yankees having a $200 million payroll is downright ludicrous.  There are only 8 teams in MLB within $100 million of the Yankees!  I'll go you one better, the Detroit Tigers (#2 to the Yanks) having a $139 million payroll is borderline silly.  Pat has a point about the Yankees overpaying their free agents.  Most players will take some kind of hometown discount.  Yankee players know they can exploit the front office, and the Yankees have built such a reputation for overspending I think sometimes they feel that they have to.

You just sound like one of those Yankee fans who doesn't want to allow other teams the opportunity at competing.  Again, silly.

I'd trade the entire team for various minor league players with no future, and then move the team to somewhere in Nova Scotia. I'd then sell it, and buy the Red Sox.

+1 thumbs upBy that point they wouldn't be worth anything, you'd barely be able to buy yourself a house... in Nova Scotia... let alone the Red Sox.

+2 thumbs upThe poll says that I have $100 billion. As of April 2007, the Yankees were estimated at $1.2 billion. I'm pretty sure that with the $99 or so billion I have left, I'd be able to buy the Sox.

I pretty much missed the part... couldn't you essentially buy every team in MLB with that and just trade everyone to the Sox?

I'm sure there would be a conflict of interest in there somewhere...but I suppose that's possible. If nothing else, I could just buy the entire MLB.

But in the end, it wouldn't be fun to just buy a super-team. The joy is in the competition. If the Sox were to combine their superior scouting talents AND have a $200M+ payroll, it wouldn't even be fair.

Take out the bleachers and make all of those fans wonder aimlessly outside of the stadium, and let the others in attendance enjoy the game.

And I would drown Hank Steinbrenner. Cash would definitely get that raise too.

That might be the dumbest comment I ever saw. Doesn't even make sense! Why would you punish the most passionate fans, and the only ones coming to games when the team is so so?

Fight for a salary cap since if the Yankees fought for it everyone would follow through, sell the team, buy the Brewers.  Oh yeah, and sign Brain Cashman to a huge contract extension so the Yankees would be stuck with him.

Well. there is a few things on the list. #1 Brian Cashman would have to take a cut in pay.#2 PLEASE! get rid of the moose, didnt like him the day they got him!.#3 give away once a year tickets to those families who can prove that they have no money and let then watch a game. really its only for the people who have money.#4 definitly spend some money on pitching. Oh and anybody who has a problem with luxury taxes the yanks pay, I would tell them to eat my shorts in so many words, cause the money goes to all the other teams anyways  and if it weren't for the yankees most stadiums would not sell the tickets they do!! THATS THE FACK, JACK!

+3 thumbs upUmmm...what are you talking about? Do me a favor...

Get a Red Sox roster...it might help you with the spelling. And then learn how to put coherent thoughts together. And then maybe you can "lay the smackdown".

+3 thumbs upUmm...good one, but you still sound like an uneducated New Yorker. Take that for what it's worth. I'm not backing down from anything. The bottom line is that you still have no idea how to spell, and the Sox (that's S-O-X) are still in first place to the team that out-pays them by $50 million.

Let me know when you can use some of that salary to buy a clue, and when you can sound like less of a sore loser, and more like a knowledgeable baseball fan...if that's even possible from the Bronx.

is that all u can come back with is about the spelling? Far from being a sore loser, but u would know you've been one for as long as u were a red SOCKS fan! which isnt too long, cause by the sounds of it ur still playin match boxes, oh that was before ur time. BARNIE!!!! lets b real if ortiz cant hit a home run and jog around the bases, then actually running to second he'll have a heart attack. and because manny is after him, he gets to jog anyways cause he hits the home run.....next!

Red Sox and Yankees fans have it so good...YOU BUY YOUR TEAMS/PLAYERS!  Cubs fans too but you guys keep suckin!  Yankees put Joba in the starting rotation if he is so damn good.  I am sick of hearing about how good he is.  Lets see how he does when he faces guys more than once in a game. (or the bugs get him)!  I am not saying he won't be good but as for right now: He is definitely a better starter than Kennedy or Hughes.
