The intelligent ones who are skeptical always get me with the following question:

"If we've been there before, why don't we go back...you know we would?!"

Why not an I don't know...or more importantly and I DON'T CARE option.  I really don't care one way or another...except the whole government lying to us thing...but I'm kind of used to that.

+1 thumbs upWhat you have to realize is the radiation involved isn't the same kind or intensity as you might get from a nuclear bomb and the Apollo missions flew through the Van Allen Belt at very high speed - outbound starting around 40,000 kph (24,854 mph) and inbound at about the same speed. They spent a few hours within the Van Allen belts and estimates of the total exposure during their entire flights were about 2 rems (the equivalent of about 100 chest x-rays or about 40% of the maximum permissible dose of radiation according to OSHA standards). Doses of 100-200 rems cause a person to experience nausea several hours after exposure and fatal doses occur above about 300 rem.

My guess is we don't go back because they never found anything of interest and it costs hundreds of millions of dollars to keep going back to just collect more rocks.

I probably wouldn's spend money on that either, but for some reason I don't think anyone in Washington listens to my opinion.
