Do you think Christie Brinkley made the right desicion to force her divorce public?

Former model CHRISTIE BRINKLEY will fight her divorce from estranged husband PETER COOK in public after a New York judge granted her request to keep proceedings open.
Brinkley, 54, reportedly filed the motion at New York Supreme Court on Thursday (19Jun08), despite protests from architect Cook and their children's guardian Theresa Mari.
But Suffolk County Judge Mark Cohen approved Brinkley's request during a hearing on Friday (20Jun08), ruling that "open courtrooms, in general and in divorce actions, may provide a basis for societal education".
He added, "The required high burden of compelling reasons to close the courtroom has not been met."
However, Cook is disappointed with the decision.
His lawyer Norman Sheresky admits Cook is upset that Brinkley "has invited their children to attend the divorce trial.
But Brinkley has fired back at the criticism. Her attorney Robert Cohen says, "The reality is he put himself way in front of his children and his wife when he made the awful decision to destroy the marriage. The trial will get at the truth, which is very important to Christie."
The star adds, "I still remain hopeful that these matters can be resolved privately."
Brinkley filed for divorce from Cook in 2006, over his alleged affair with a then-18-year-old assistant.
According to Access Hollywood, among Brinkley's divorce allegations are claims that Cook trawled the internet for women and porn.
The former couple - who have kids Jack, 12, and Sailor, nine together - will head to trial in New York on 2 July (08).

+3 thumbs upIt's best to let the press see for themselves what really is going on in the trial then to have them just make up crap like they normally do.

The Cliff Note Version: So much more to this than any of us will ever know...

Honestly? If she wasn't a "celebrity" we wouldn't even know anything. Now that I've stated the obvious let me say what REALLY disturbs me about this.

It is, in my opinion, a reflection of "real" life. Not that any of us have ever done anything so extreme but this stuff happens every where. Children are exposed to horrible situations between parents everyday all over the world. What makes me sad is these parents have no idea what effect their behavior will have on those children as adults.

I can't judge the "why" of this particular case, but I have seen much worse. Families that don't have the money and resources for counseling for them or their children often end up in the Criminal Justice system.

+4 thumbs upIt truly is sad no matter what perspective you look at it from! But I do feel most sorry for the children! And you are right, if it was you or I, it would not be that kind of public spectacle in the 1st place!

+7 thumbs upI think it's sad that a mom would do this to her children...my exhusbands were no saints, but my kiddos will find that out for themselves, not by me. I try to foster a loving relationship between them and it's up to their fathers to do the same. These poor kids...

+5 thumbs upI will have to agree with raven73, would we even know about this if Christie were not a celebrity? However, as others have said about the media, what they don't know they make up and tell. Bring all of it out, give everyone, including the media the truth.  The facts will not be as sensational as they will portray, and they will still try to make something of nothing.

+5 thumbs upWhat in God's name was Peter Cook thinking?  I bet that, even at 54, Christie is hotter than the eighteen year old assistant.  And I hope nobody says "looks aren't everything" because I doubt he was thinking of starting a real relationship with the 18 year old.

Having worked as a legal assistant, I CAN say that without the children observing for themselves, it would be a he said/she said kind of thing, and mom and dad would have their own versions of what was happening.  This way, they can see for themselves.  However, do I think this is the right thing to do? No, I hate that the children will be exposed to the fight.  They should be protected.

It's really a lose/lose situation.

Whether news would get out in the press or not, you just don't air dirty laundry like this for the world to see.  The truth ultimately comes out, and the people who matter will know what they need to know.

+5 thumbs upChristy you are still young enough to challenge both Liz Taylor and others for most celebrity marriages and divorces.  However, set the bar high because with Britney Spears out their you never know when enough is enough to hold the record.

One question - so, you're married to Christie Brinkley, so why fool around with the assistant ?

(maybe we need a pic of the assistant....she MUST be unreal for the idiot, er, dude to do it !)

+3 thumbs upIt's just another sad case. Every day people go through all kinds of misfortunes, but because celebrities are given this higher status the media thinks we all want to know about it or should have an opinion. I wish her well, but don't really care about her whole sordid deal.

+1 thumbs upWell said Irb...but Im gonna add to this...my ex, kids, and new wife all get along great (it actually wierds some people out) but only for one reason. When we decided to try to have kids we said we d never stay together just for the kids or the house or what the in laws thought.Ultimately it comes down to 2 peoples decision on what the best thing for thier situation is,and its different for everyone.Im a better father happy two weekends a month than I ever was unhappy on a daily basis. But most people dont think ahead at the possibility that things may go wrong. If they do you OWE it to your children to do all you can to be PARENTS at that point, not spouses. And from personal experience I can happily say it will work.
