Does anyone know how the Q's point system work?

Last week I took part in a couple of polls for some points on the Q. On one of them I got 5 out of 6 right, the other one I got like 3 out of 8 right. On the second poll I lost 31 some-odd points. On the first one I lost 33 points. How does that work? I get losing points for doing crappy on the one poll, but I only missed one on the other poll and I lose 33 points? Could someone explain this to me?

+10 thumbs upThe more people get a question right, the less points you get for the question. For example, if 90% of people pick team A to win, and it happens, then those 90% don't get a lot of points. But if team B wins, then the people who picked the upset get a lot of points.

So on the poll where you got 5 out of 6 correct, it is likely that almost everyone got 4-5 correct, so even though you did well percentage-wise, you still did worse than the average person who took that poll.

ok I understand that but to miss one out of 6 and get negative points? I'm sorry that sounds broken to me

Perhaps they were all "easy" questions, so you don't get many points for getting them right, but you get docked big time for getting any wrong. If more than half of the poll-takers got all 6 correct, then anyone who missed anything would lose points.

I understand the frustration.  How easy was the poll?  Sometimes the problem is that the polls that are put out there aren't difficult enough.  I would rather have a poll with tough questions than to answer a poll with easy questions and then have to rely on a random guess for the tiebreaker to separate me from everyone else that answered the easy questions.....

This is one of the funniest posts I have seen on the Q since I've been around.   Nice job!

I can't hardly keep up with when to eat lunch let alone try to figure this stuff out! I'm just having a blast! I guess that's what happens when winning isn't everything...I could give a rip about standings, points etc.

I'm just here to prove how much I don't know!

Pat's description pretty much sums it up, but I've noticed 1 other thing.  If I do well on polls like that and bomb the tiebreaker, I'll end up being the dunce.

Okay, here's another question about points for everybody, on my profile page next to "My Prediction Results" it says FanIQ=23439. Does anybody know what that number is? Because it doesnt match any of my other numbers...
I got no clue.

I'm totally confused by it.  One day last week I scored positive points on all the polls I answered (I only answered 3 or 4) but I lost almost 500 points that day.  A couple days later I bombed almost everything and gained over 300 points.

I got no clue.

That number is your FanIQ points from all the polls you enter worth FanIQ points. It is added with quiz and trivia points to get the IQ points.

The best way to see why you won/lost points is after the poll is scored, on the far left you can click a link right under the "How you did against your friends" section and it shows how everyone who took the poll finished.
