+3 thumbs upBeing a Rangers fan, I can honestly say that I think both teams got exactly what they were looking for. However, I feel that Hamilton would be this good no matter what team he plays for. On the other hand, a pitcher and this Texas heat go together like Bonds and roids... In the beginning they are good, but by the end (of the season) they are in melt down mode literally. That has been the #1 argument for the Rangers for years. By mid-season, pitching takes a huge nose dive. July and August are the hottest months of the year down here.

+1 thumbs upWell, the Reds suck, and lost a guy that could have been helping every day.  Dunno how it's even a question.  And just because you hadn't heard of these guys doesn't make them no-name.  Hamilton was touted as the greatest prospect in the history of baseball before his drug problems, and was really good last year.  Volquez tore up the minors too.  You'd make a good blogger.

Well to respond to the person who made this poll, they definetly werent 2 no name players, they were both extremely high draft picks and prospecets (Hamilton being a #1) and I think Hamilton won comeback player of the year last year and everyone knew he was good. But anyways it was better for the Reds I think cause the Reds needed pitching and have a great offense. With him weve had a pretty good pitching staff finally and I think the Reds could make the playoffs. The Rangers on the other hand got a great hitter but I dont think he will lead them to the playoffs

+2 thumbs upGreat offense?  They're in the bottom half of the league in every offensive category besides home runs.  And it's hard to make the playoffs from last place.  They flirt with trading Dunn every year, are doing it with Griffey this year, and have shown no commitment to winning in the 2000s.  Firing Krivsky was the right move but they waited too long.  Morale is shot.

+1 thumbs upThe reds needed pitching more than they needed another left handed outfielder, check the roster we are flooded with leftys, we gave 50,000 for Hamilton and we got a lights out pitcher.I go with the reds making out better

Flooded with lefties?  Like having two many Left-Handed hitting players is a bad thing?  The roster retardedly only carries 4 OFs total, and sure, 3 are lefties, but the two that started out on the roster on opening day (Dunn, Griffey) are batting under .250 combined.  Not exactly valid reasoning for not holding on to Hamilton.

+2 thumbs upYeah, but it's a wash.  They should have traded Dunn last year.  An OF with Hamilton and Bruce would be looking pretty good right now.

Its not like they dont freakin wanna trade Dunn but the Rangers wouldntve taken that trade for Dunn instead of Hamilton. Nobody will give the Reds anybody good for Dunn cause nobody wants a guy that hits a home run every third pitch but the other 2 pitches strikes out. And our lineup is a great offensive team despite what your little stat sheet tells you. Just cause a teams offense isnt putting up good numbers doesnt mean they arent good. Baseball is a streaky sport and with Homer Bailey called up and after we get rid of Dunn and Griffey I think we'll be a playoff team

Ridiculous.  You were talking about this year?  You do realize the Cubs, Brewers and overachieving Cardinals stand in your way?  Or do 4 teams per division make the playoffs?  The Reds aren't sniffing the playoffs for at least another half-decade.  And Homer Bailey sucks.

No im not talking about this year when did I ever say that, but I think we will in a couple years maybe even next year. And Homer Baileys making his first start this year on thursday and is a beast.

+1 thumbs upI picked Volquez because the Reds look like they're goin' places. Meanwhile, Texas is already full of good hitters, they need good pitchers... and they traded one away!

+1 thumbs upJosh Hamilton will hopefully becaome a top name player throughtout the years and become a great player to coem. Volquez being a pitcher is having a great year but it takes a pitcher longer to realize if he is a sure thing or not bc a pitcher faces new hitters every year and has to get better on and on

+1 thumbs upgrear trade for both teams as long as hamilton stays clean an sober
#18 | 38 days ago

I dunno why I overstated it earlier, it's as simple as this: Josh Hamilton plays every day.  Even if he were only above-average he'd be more valuable than a great pitcher that goes once a week, but it goes beyond that as Hamilton is elite and Volquez is the one who's just barely above average.  Enjoyed watching the Rockies eat him alive the other night.  But hey, at least he's not as bad as Homey Bailey.  What a bust.

The scouts from both teams did their homework here.
