So, i was reading an article today about the origins of the patriotic songs that we have grown up to love (Origins Of Patriotic Songs)

It's pretty cool to see where the songs come from and how they came about

It's Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A."

Above the patriotic aspect of it, every "modern US Marine" will know the song as it is played while we officially are given the "Eagle, Globe, and Anchor...i.e. EGA"...and for the first times in our lives called United States Marines.  It may be one of the most powerful "patriotic songs" ever made.

It's a song that always gets me, and when a person with an amazing voice sings it OMG crazy chills.  It would always get me pumped up for night games back in the day after that song i was ready to go.

And by "modern US Marine" you mean, young, uncommitted, "New Corps", don't ask don't tell Marine?  That's OK.  It's still a decent song.

As a generality, yes...but no...What I mean is you and me and anyone since they started that tradition.  To me, a "modern marine" is anyone after Vietnam...but that tradition started after that entire fiasco.

yada-yada-yada...as we just discussed (on the phone...sorry to the Q community for not having the wire tap into our conversations that the rest of the Sporting world seems to have)...the USMC has been going down hill for a while...including your "4 years before me" time.

+4 thumbs upThose were a very important four years...in fact, now that you mention it...the decline of the Corps seemed to really start about four years after I came in which coincides with you enlisting....coincidence....I THINK NOT!!!!

I'm not sure if it is as much hearing the song or the "play Ball' shouted afterwards. Military folks, thanks for what you do.
