If They Hadn't Died..... (Edited 07/21/08 09:43PM by Seth)
These artists all died before they were 30.

Artist Age Cause of Death
Duane Allman (Allman Bros.) 24 Motorcyle wreck
Jimi Hendrix 27 Drug overdose
Brian Jones (Rolling Stones) 24 Drowning
Janis Joplin 27 Drug overdose
Jim Morrison (Doors) 27 Heart failure
Gram Parsons (Byrds) 26 Drug overdose
Stu Sutcliffe (Beatles) 22 Cerebral hemorrhage
Ritchie Valens 17 Plane crash
Ronnie Van Zandt (Lynyrd Skynyrd) 29 Plane crash
Sid Vicious (Sex Pistols) 21 Drug overdose

We can't help but wonder how the face of rock music might have been different if they had lived, and continued to perform. Which artist would have had the greatest success?

+13 thumbs upi would replace Sid Vicious with Stevie Ray Vaughn, he was one of the greatest blues gituar players, right up there with B.B. King, and Buddy Guy, and so on, i think he would still be successful today. I know i would still listen to him.

Here's a silly question... How do we know that these people weren't done creatively? How do we know that they wouldn't pull an Aerosmith or STP on us, ya know, they wrote the best stuff they could and then pressed on with mediocre? I really don't think that the music industry would have changed too much if any if any of these individuals would have survived except they may not have been as recognized. An artists work is always more valuable after they die.

Sorry Steph, not trying to steal your thunder. Great poll though

well after STP broke up, Scott Wieland got into a much better almost all-star band, Velvet Revolver, Guns N' Roses--Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Dave Kushner, ex-Wasted Youth, Electric Love Hogs and Dave Navarro's band.

but it seems that Scott Weiland can not focus on the work, or the fans, among other things, so he is no longer going to be the lead singer for the same reason STP broke up. Scott is not the best front man to begin with.

my mom always told me that Jimmie Hendrix was not all that popular until he died, so i guess it would depend on the artist.

+4 thumbs upI'm sorry... i never saw the cobain appeal. To me, Foo Fighters are far better band than Nirvana ever would have been. JMHO. So Cobain was a f'd up junkie who sounded like he was on the toilet when he sang... guess that appealed to some young people.

I think Scott's major problem is that he sobered up/got clean. Before he went to rehab STP was putting out some quality tunes. Afterwards and that last disc sucked.

Personnally I am not a big fan of Velvet Revolver. For some reason their music just doesn't grab me. I'm not knocking the talent of any of the band members. I acknowledge that they are all accomplished musicians, I am just not overly fond of their sound. I treat them like Led Zeplin... I can listen to a couple of songs but I can't bring myself to burn the cash to buy an entire CD

+6 thumbs upUm...most of these on the lists were f'd up junkies. On the flip side of yours, I think the Foo Fighters suck....but that's my opinion.

+1 thumbs upI agree. I will give him props for furthering the advancement of rock but to cancel school because he got too high and decided it was a great idea to commit suicide? I don't think he had quite that much impact on everyone's life. Yeah, he had a few good songs, but seriously.
