+8 thumbs upYou have to be able to separate what the Olympics represent on a global level from some of the human rights problems of China, so, yes, he should support our American athletes at the Olympics.
At the same time, he could use his presence there to impress some ideas for change (although I really, really doubt he or any other one person could personally do anything to change the current situation there)

+8 thumbs upI don't think he should have attended, I think it just lended credibility to China receiving the games. But I do somewhat understand why he went, to support our team. It is a shame the games were awarded to China in the first place. The IOC was once again paid off. It wouldn't surprise me if Iran or Venezuela were on their shortlist for the next summer games they award.

+2 thumbs upI have no problem with him attended to show support for the American athletes who are there. However, I do think that he should have been more vocal about what's wrong with China. He IS a politician, and that's his job.

+7 thumbs upI would rather he not.  He is apparently the first president to ever attend the Olympic games on foreign soil, so its a shame that the first time had to be China.

+2 thumbs upI read an article in the paper today about islamic terrorists making threats to anyone that planned to use forms of public transportation around the games...  In a way I guess it's good that he's trying to show that he's stronger than them, but I just got a sneaking suspission something is going to happen before the games are over...

+1 thumbs upHe did the right thing.  He also, the very first day in China, condemmed the Chinese for their human rights record and called on more freedoms.  It took more to do that then to sit home and do nothing.

+4 thumbs upDefinitely wrong, but there hasn't been a whole lot right about his presidency anyway, so why start now?

I think that George Bush ranks down there as one of the worst President's in U.S. History!!!!  That said,
He went to China to have a GREAT photo op with HIS U.S. Olympic Team and he is doing it with some great class.  He is acting out as a pretty solid "Human Being" which he often has problems doing.  I've been pretty impressed with the man.
AND, on the political front he has stepped out boldly on at least two occasions to reprimand the Chinese Government on the poor Human Rights Stance.  I couldn't believe it---he took a chance and made the right decision!  He was bold and decisive before a national and international audience---granted it is not "ACTION" but still he made bold statements.
These athletes have spent years getting ready for these Olympics and deserve their chance in the "Sun'' and to have their President their shaking hands, walking amongst them-smiling and even interacting with them is a HUGE thing.  Bush is the FIRST President to attend a foreign held Olympics.
I may not like the man but in this single instance I believe he made the correct move: will wonders never cease!!!

I can only say that if one decision would make a presidency. This compared to the other's is a shinning moment. Because good or bad there are multiple decisions that are just soo wrong that anything seems to be a plus'

+4 thumbs upIt got him the hell out of Washington where he can do LESS damage... maybe he will get lost or lose his passport, forget where he left Air Force One and get stuck over there in traffic...

Where is the "Who really gives a rip" choice of an answer?
