+14 thumbs upThis year, ARod was worth MORE than that to the Yankees. He has 15 game-winning RBI's, and the Yankees are in a pretty tight playoff race. With ANYONE else in the league taking ARod's place in the order, they would be on the outside, looking in. Without Alex Rodriguez this year, the Yanks would have been a very average team, and they would most likely be without Roger Clemens as well, because they would have been too far out of the race for him to even consider signing with them.

You can't put a price tag on ARod this year, and no matter what he is paid, he will be worth it.

+7 thumbs upWith the current state of the MLB market, yes. I don't think anyone is actually worth $30 million. Heck I don't think anyone is worth $5 million, but thats a different argument.

+4 thumbs upA-Rod is not worth $30 million a year.  The baseball market is different than the market you find in the real world in the fact that the talent sets the price for their services, not the client/employer.  Plus, the client generally gives the contract to whomever will perform for the lowest price in the real world, but not in baseball.

A-Rod is a great player, but who's to say one of the other Yankees couldn't have picked up the slack in his absence?  Who's to say that had A-Rod was never on the team the Yankees would have spent that money (or part of it) on a pitcher or someone else who could have helped them just as much?

As good as A-Rod is, $30 million is too much.  You could get 3-4 other serviceable players for that much.

That may not be true, considering merchandise sales, ticket sales, advertising dollars that Arod generates, from a fiscal standpoint he may actually be worth more.  But don't just take my word for it:

I don't even think the Marlins have 30 million dollars. And also we have Migual Cabrera so we woudn't need him but I accidentally clicked yes.

+1 thumbs uphe has been PRICELESS to the Yankees this year and ANY team would pay $30 million for him- especially if they were contenders. besides, ANYONE is worth whatever an employer is willing to pay for you- whether in Pro Sports or in Life in general- nobody is born with a cap on their wealth to an employer!!

+2 thumbs upI agree with you exactly.  No athlete is worth a 30 mil a year paycheck.  But, if you compare his to what other MLB players are making, then yes, definately worth it.
