Okay, it is GOOD at this level:  Face facts, there are a good number of students who do not meet the entrace standards for college who just happen to be SOLID basketball players.  They deserve a shot at a JOB with the skills that God gave them; therefore, they can go to Europe for some developmental skill with pay.

My FEAR, that too many with poor grades and not so hot skills will head to Europe and end up in the B and C level leagues and languish in obscuity for a couple years...get fired and have nothing.  When, if fact, had they gone to a Community College for two years and then College they'd have earned a degree and perhaps the skills to do something besides ending up a basketball junkie asking, "will that be paper or plastic?"

In the last week or so Brandon Jennings decided to go to Europe to play basketball instead of going to Arizona to play basketball . This way he get some money to play basketball and then if he good enough in one year maybe the NBA but it may backfire and he may not get enough playing time in Europe instead of Arizona

Brandon Jennings had a very weak SAT or ACT Score; he was thinking of taking it again but his pt. score was marginal and not likely to jump that high.  Plus, the clearing house told him that his grades were marginal and he'd likely need a prep school.  From what I read on several web pages he was NOT interested in doing ANY more school, only playing basketball.  So, why put the kid in college where he be a set failure or force the coaching staff to put him in "Underwater Basketweaving" to succeed.

We (the fans) are already forcing the NCAA to make some "student atheltes" a sham; let's not extend it by not allowing some kids to go to Europe to get their year in for their sport.  In fact, EXTEND it back to two years and let these kids get sports development over there and allow the kids who DO need college to get 1/2 way to a degree and maybe go all the way for the degree PLUS learn the REAL SKILLS of the sport instead of just going to the pro's with just primal skills.  These kids are making a mockery of the sports in many cases; they need development---as people, as players and as men!

It really will depend on the person.  If a kid jumps to the NBA there will be certain problems they will encounter.  Going to Europe will intensify those problems.  There will be many adjustments.  Some will adjust and some will not.  Quite a few have gone to Europe and loved it and stayed.  It's almost a flip of the coin situation.

+1 thumbs upI think, for the most part, that going to college is the best option.  Most players will never make it to the NBA and need something to fall back on.  However, there are exceptions to every rule.  If someone has no intention of seriously trying to obtain a degree, college may not be for them.

I would rather they go to school of course, but if the kid doesn't want to get a education, than I can't really blame them. I miss the old days, when a few players would go to the NBA after their sophomore year, but 95% or more would go to a school for 4 years.

u should go to college because u get used to the way of American basketball and u will play with people that u might play in the future. And it seems like more competition

+1 thumbs upIf you're an elite talent, why not?  You get paid, and the Europeans play an awesome style of basketball.

+2 thumbs upWell if you are serious about playing in the NBA than i think it is a great move, european talent is about on the same level as the NBA, about 40% of the relevant players in the NBA are European, if i knew i couldn't make the grades or i couldn't support my family while in college i would totally join a Euro team, but if i had the finacial secruity and the grades college would be great! Talent is talent, i don't think playing in Europe would mess that up.
