Is this obnoxious? (Edited 10/09/07 08:34AM by Seth)

Someone makes a mistake, but in the end it works out well. Another person tells them that they got lucky and should be more careful/do something else next time. The person that made the mistake then proceeds to b*tch at the other person, claming "Well I got the job done, so who really cares what I did." They say that even if what they did could, and probably should have ended up horribly, and there was another much more simpler and low-risk solution that would have given the same result.

The only thing wrong with that message is when the person says things "should" have ended up horribly.  Sure, you may have done the right thing the wrong way, but it's you shouldn't wish that bad things would have happened due to using the wrong method.

In all, it's always the best to do things the right way.  It raises the classic question "Do the ends justify the means?".  Sometimes they don't.  For example, Barry Bonds "got the job done," produced results and was an outstanding player.   However, people are still infuriated with him over his alleged steroid use and it might cost him a job next year and the Hall of Fame.  Barry Bonds is a good example of how the  "results are the only things that matter" theory holds no water.  Do things correctly.

+1 thumbs upSorry, but I've been in the military and I'ma fireman now, and there's no room for taking unnecessary chances.  U've got to know, u got to use ur training and err on the side of safety.  Granted, there's the risk/reward factor, and sometimes u have to go for it, but if it's dumb luck, they need to realize they may not (and most likely won't) have that luck next time.  Now, I understand most times these decisions rn't as serious a situation, but still, I think it relates well.

I'm not entirely sure I completely followed your whole train of thought, but....I think something similar happened to me yesterday at work where a co-worker put in a sale for me before I got to work and left off a portion of the labor part which i then had to add in at no charge to the customer (since he already quoted her) and I was pretty mad but didn't say a whole lot because I know he was just trying to help get the job done in my absence and I did catch it in time to prevent larger problems later and this entire post has been one loooonnnggggg sentence so I'll just click submit now.

Hopefully you work with this person, and not LIVE with this person you're talking about

I think the guy that did the stupid thing has the same mindset as my wife. They aren't ticked off because they thought they did the right thing, they are just miffed that someone is criticising them. They don't want to hear that they maybe could have handled the situation differently and most likely safer.

I HATE WHEN PEOPLE LOOK FOR CRAP TO COMPLAIN ABOUT, THEN TRY AND CALL YOU OUT TO HUMILIATE YOU. THATS WHY I TAKE PROZAC SO I DON'T SNAP THEM IN HALF!
