John McCain FLIP-FLOPS on Tax Position!!!! (Edited 10/03/08 07:16AM by ChristiSunshine)
During John McCain's whole campaign for President, he has clearly stated that he WILL NOT RAISE TAXES. He even uses this statement to hammer Barak Obama for "wanting to raise taxes"! Even today, at a Town Hall meeting in Nevada, a little girl in the crowd asked McCain " If elected President, are you going to raise our taxes?" Whereas McCain answered a definitive "NO!"  Yet on Sunday on the show This Week with George Stephanopoulos (ABC), when questioned about raising taxes on payroll and other things- John McCain answered "Though I don't want to raise taxes- NOTHING IS OFF THE TABLE!"  What up??? Lets see how you feel...

The biggest mistake McCain made today was saying that he wouldn't raise taxes.  He had a chance to come off as being geniunely honest, and now he just looks like he's flip flopping for votes.
+9 thumbs upwith McCain's "flip flopping"...maybe he can get brett favre to be his running mate? Would solve 2 "personell problems" !!!!

+3 thumbs upSadly it doesn't matter if it is McCain or Obama, either one WILL raise taxes as all presidents have a tendency of doing. You should be used to it by now so why bother with it???????

I hate posting twice

1) No, he's just saying that "nothing is off the table" so he can beef up his "maverick" credentials and look like he's reaching across the aisle.  He's basically tacking to the center like Obama...although not as drastically.  Frankly, this is why I believe that McCain is a flawed candidate (albeit better than Obama).

2) I don't agree with the premise of the question.  Time and time again it has been proven that lowering taxes results in increased revenue for the federal government (see Kennedy, John F. and Reagan, Ronald).  The "no choice" argument is thrown out there by journalists that flunked Economics 101.

+3 thumbs upI tend to agree with you on this one... But, with that said, if McCain does raise taxes (if elected of course)- does that not make him a bold faced liar??? He has stated countless millions of times that he will not do it, but in light of his recent interview- I think it's all been a bunch of BS!!! This brings back memories of another "Popular Republican" George H. Bush (papa Bush) who made the famous statement "Read my lips- no new taxes!" IMHO- due to our horrible economic situation, our huge deficit, and the trillions of dollars owed to Medi-Caid obligations- the next President has no choice but to raise taxes and/or "roll back" current tax cuts to pay this down. At least Obama hasn't "flip-flopped"(lied!) on his position.. He has said from day #1 that he was going to roll back the tax cuts to try and pay off the deficit!

I have yet to hear any Republican running for the Office of President ever say anything like that! So who is lying??

That's part of the problem, politicians like Obama do admit they are going to raise taxes...they just change the vernacular to "roll back the tax cuts" (i.e. raise taxes) in an attempt to pull the wool over people's eyes.
